Compounding the aforementioned excitement is the fact that the NW-MS70D measures just 1.44x1.94x0.72", and weighs in at a measly 54 grams. This is without a doubt one of the smallest portable audio devices we've ever had the pleasure of reviewing here at THG, and while we were expecting that this would result in an awkward control layout, the unit is very well designed and thus was an absolute pleasure to use. In contrast, the recently reviewed Apple iPod, although has a much greater capacity, is significantly larger and weighs in at a whopping 185 grams. While many would argue that the iPod is by far the best audio player on the market (in terms of capacity and sound quality), portability is still an important factor and in this case, the NW-MS70D wins hands down.
As is the case with many modern audio playback devices, the NW-MS70D features USB connectivity and is compatible with MP3, WMA and WAV files. This allows the unit to be literally "plug and play", and the included docking station (pictured below) enables users to upload music to the Walkman with the blink of an eye. Furthermore, this docking station not only acts as an interface between the NW-MS70D and PC, but it also allows for quick and easy charging - very handy indeed.
A Charging Dock - How Convenient

Aside from the walkman itself and the included charging cradle, Sony has also bundled an AC adaptor, carry pouch, earphones, headphone extension cord, instruction manual, neck strap and version 1.5 of its SonicStage music management software (which we will be discussing in detail a little later on in the review) with the unit. While this is quite a generous bundle, it's important to note that, if you plan on keeping the NW-MS70D in a backpack or trouser pocket, the default headphone cord length will make this a near impossible task. Thankfully, however, the included headphone extension cord rectifies this issue nicely.
As far as build quality is concerned, the NW-MS70D is very solidly constructed, with its casing being manufactured entirely out of titanium. This means that it is not only light, but scratch resistant and aesthetically pleasing as well. In fact, we've even found it to be an excellent icebreaker with the opposite sex - A rare occurrence in the field of IT journalism I assure you.
