3. Test Configuration

Configuring a network, and especially a Wi-Fi network, is not necessarily easy - above all when you're not an IT pro. So, setting up your Noxon, despite the manufacturer's assurances and an instruction manual that is well written, might involve a few surprises. We're going to presume that your network, including a Wi-Fi router, is operating properly without the Noxon. If this isn't the case, you'll obviously have to remedy that situation before installation, or you'll end up in a maze of problems that will be very hard to find your way out of.

To start off, it may be worthwhile to take a look at your router configuration software, which may even include a UPnP activation function.

Activate the UPnP function in your router's system requirements - if one exists.

Security management is high on the list if pitfalls of Wi-Fi access with the Noxon. If your network is encrypted to keep your neighbor from knowing about everything you do with your computer (and that's a good idea!), you'll need to check to see if security is in WEP mode. The Noxon doesn't support other security modes and so won't be able to connect to your network. You can use a 64 or 128 bit key (depending on how important security is to you and the conditions your network operates under), being sure to keep it handy for configuring the Noxon.

Be sure to configure your wireless network's encryption to be compatible with the Noxon.

Now you need to choose the server software for your PC, which oddly Terratec doesn't include with its installation CD. It recommends MusicMatch Jukebox, a well-known application for managing music files, the basic version of which is free. If you download it from MusicMatch's Website you'll be sure to have the latest version. At least that's how Terratec puts it; but a lot of users would probably have found it nice to have a working version already on the CD.
