2. How Does It Work?

The Noxon can broadcast music in one of two ways - either by connecting to an Internet radio station broadcasting in MP3 (which implies a broadband cable or ADSL connection) or by connecting to a local PC (containing music files) that has server software. As usual with Wi-Fi networks, two solutions are possible: a direct (ad hoc) link to the PC and integration into an existing network (infrastructure). Obviously a link to a network is preferable from all points of view.

A typical consumer configuration uses a Wi-Fi router which handles multiple functions, including sharing of Internet access, a switch and a Wi-Fi access point. Through it, the Noxon can access the Internet (for radio) but also the other computers in the network to play their music files - provided, naturally, that server software is operating on them. That's the best solution because of its flexibility and range of possibilities.

The simplest (but least interesting) way to use the Noxon is for direct access to a PC.

With a router, you can access Internet radio but also all the computers in your network!

We should point out that the Noxon uses UPnP (Universal Plug and Play), a self-configuring system based principally on DCP (Device Control Protocols). Keep UPnP compatibility in mind when choosing server software...
