Unlike feature phones, Smartphones use open operating systems. This allows developers to create applications for the phones, making the phones highly extensible. As you look for a smartphone, remember to consider such features as size and weight, the electro-mechanical and software user interface, available memory, battery power and connectivity to your computer.
And, remember the four immutable rules of smartphones.
Rule number 1: A true smartphone is extensible and there's a wide range of extra software to install. Rule number 2: Generally, that a phones comes from a specific vendor is no guarantee that it is a smartphone. Rule number 3: It is the operating system that makes a smartphone a smartphone. Rule number 4: A phone's case is no indicator of its status as a smartphone. All smartphones are not created equally. You need to fit a phone to your way of life. Because you usually have to buy a phone, whether smart or not, with a one or two year service plan, look for deals that give you at least a month to return the phone and cancel the contract if you're not satisfied. You can also shop the brick and mortar stores run by local carriers. There you can get a feel for the phones available and see just how smart each smartphone is for you.
