10. Display

The diagonal measurement of the display is 15.4" and offers WXGA resolution (1280x800 pixels). The outer surface of this so-called Fine Bright display is glossy, which leads to richer color saturation and hues compared to matte finish displays. Naturally, this also makes this kind of display more subject to bothersome reflections.

With a maximum brightness of 143 cd/m² you can work with this notebook even in bright indoor ambient light. The average black-white contrast measurements taken from 64 equally-sized areas on the monitor surface produced a value of 283:1. This relatively modest contrast value stems from our reading of the black-only value at 0.49 cd/m². A completely black image thus doesn't show on this display as pitch black; rather, it appears as a somewhat milky shade instead. That said, spatial brightness distribution on this monitor is quite homogeneous. Even contrast readings remained pretty constant across the entire monitor surface, when measuring and comparing values for neighboring areas on-screen.

Here's how to read these diagrams. Each box in the diagram represents one of 64 measurement fields, and contains related brightness and contrast values measured for that field. When we relate values among neighboring fields, high value lines emerge from linear interpolation of measurements from adjacent boxes. The various colors indicate parts of the display surface for which measured values occur within specific value ranges, as indicated in the legend. (Colors shown do not represent colors captured directly from the monitor.)
