Let's hope some of that free love spreads throughout the continent, eh?

The iPhone launched across the world with mostly exclusive agreements, but those walls built by carriers is now being broken down by competition.

This morning, Bell Canada announced that it has reached an agreement with Apple to bring iPhone 3G and iPhone 3GS to Canada this November. Presently, the iPhone 3G and 3GS have been exclusive to Rogers Wireless and its subsidiary Fido.

The exclusivity with Rogers made sense at the time, as it was the only operator of a GSM network in Canada. Now that both Bell and Telus are building out HSPA+ networks, this opens up the possibility of the iPhone on the previously CMDA-only carriers.

News reports from the Globe and Mail also say that Telus will be receiving the iPhone around the same time as Bell. This would mean that the iPhone will be available on every major Canadian mobile carrier, essentially erasing the allure of one network over the other caused by the Apple device.

It's about time,Bell and Telus wanted to get this out before the Olympics in Vancouver.Hopefully this will put an end to Rogers Gauging it customers or at the very least give us an option on who gauges us less.

Well, living in Canada I can attest to the fact that Bell, Telus, and Rogers all pretty much suck equally.

hehe

I don't know about Canada... but I will be really happy when AT&T finally loses out and other carriers can sell the iPhone here in the US. Not only does AT&T suck... but they are evil!

:D I'm in Canada and this is great news. I'd like to see the monthly bill for an iPhone drop quite a bit to $30-$40 vs the cheapest plan now which is $60

Still, they're locked to the service, although you can chose the service provider. I want it to be unlocked. For the sake of everybody, not mine (haven't any apple at my surroundings). A general trend change.

Living in Canada, and working for Telus, I can tell you each company has their downs and ups... depends where you are and what matters the most, but I welcome the competition...

That's for sure. Even though iPhone won't be a Roger's exclusive I bet the data rates and plans will all be the same price as Rogers. Heck, look at system access fees, Telus, Rogers and Bell ALL ding you $6.95 not a penny more, not a penny less. Where's the competition in that?

I can see this being an opportunity for all the carriers here in Canada to raise all their data plans. State that their out of stock like rogers has done since the release of the 3GS and charge a premium to all customers who actually have it.

"The iPhone launched across the world with mostly exclusive agreements"

In most countries, exclusivity deals are prohibited. I can only find UK and US still with exclusivity deals now that Canada has dropped them, and the deal in the UK is set to expire shortly.

I thought that capitalism was all about competition? Guess not, at least in the US.

A motherfucking men!

Hopefully Shaw doesn't get it though, they are the worst...
I'm losing TV, phone and net once a week... and they aren't really cheaper.
THough net with Telus was slower, atleast it was more reliable...

I live in canada, and most 3G regions cover only wel populated areas. Rogers can kiss my ass with their ads showing young people in the woods using their laptops with 3G. At least, newest ads show skyscrapers in the background...

There are thousands and maybe MILLIONS of people here who are still stuck with 56k, and even 28k due to poor lines, and it's not because they are poor... It's because technology is for the majority, who lives in Montreal, Trois-Rivieres and Quebec.
