Say it ain't so! An iPhone that can't be hacked with a jailbreak tool?
People have been jailbreaking their iPhones for almost as long as Apple has been shipping them and, while it probably won't take the people that live in the internet too long to figure out away around Apple's latest trick, it's certainly enough to have some late adopters questioning whether or not they should purchase an iPhone 3GS.
A report over on Boy Genius Report says that Apple is now shipping a new bootrom with the iPhone 3GS that is resistant to the 24kpwn exploit used by the Dev-Team and others to jailbreak the iPhone. For those of you laying trust in the ever so heroic Dev-Team, hold your horses. BGR spoke to Dev-Team member MuscleNerd who confirmed that the bootrom update, dubbed iBoot-359.3.2, would make jailbreaking new iPhones “impossible” for the time being.
Looks like those of you hell bent on getting a jailbreakable iPhone 3GS will have to look to eBay.

The key words being: "...for the time being." It is only a matter of time.
another example of apple and their bs. apple can try to stop them but they will always fail.
dont they know by now that its only a matter of time till they re-hack it. again and again
Heh won't take people smarter than anyone at Apple very long to hack this.
I'm confused, every day I see a news story about some new hack for some latest iPhone OS release.
I think in the future, these stories should come with a chart, detailing each iPhone, OS, and which Jailbreaking method/software works or doesn't work.
Frankly, I can't keep track of any of this crap.
I give it two weeks, TOPS, before they are jail broken... again.
Oh darn. Guess I'll just have to stick to my open source Android phone.
Just another example of Apple trying to maintain absolute control over their equipment (I say "their" equipment because they are of the attitude that, just because you pay for one of their products doesn't mean you own it).
Hopefully this will hurt how many devices they can sell. If people are paying 2k+ for the thing with the ridiculous service costs let people do what they want with it.
this reminds me sooo much of the psp
with there going back and forth with hacked firmware. its always fun to wach companies try to "hack proof" a product then wach some organization come out with some really creative solutions. It would be neat to have an article about the evolution of this process from the old nintendo and famlycom days up until today... I still remember playing old imports on my super nintendo, and all that was needed was a file and a pair of pliers.
It's like a never ending slugging match. It will only be a matter of time before people crack the new ones. Surprised to see Windows Mobile and BB don't try this, but then again they are smarter in that they understand it's futile effort.
So when are we going to start comparing Apple to the Empire?
Let's see, Steve Jobs, Apple CEO, wants you to buy iphones not allowing you the freedom to do whatever you want to it.

clowns.
I simply fail to see why anyone would want to produce such a restricted device. People love the HTC's because of their ability to customize. When there is a competitive alternative to the iPhone in the eyes of the blind masses, such restrictive practices will drive people away from their products.
This assumes, though, that the blind masses can somehow see.
That is why we call them Lemmings...
Hopefully other will be able to bring new touchscreen phones which are better then iphone soon. I hate apple trick. it is like i will give you a candy and i will spank your ass. hate someone controlling me...
you produce and sell your iphone end of story what the f. you want to make life complicated and controlling.
The same with MacOS, i hate it because legally you can only put it on APPLCE brand computer. Compared to MSFT, you buy it and use it anywhere you want. if you will manage it put it on you sell phone...
Here's a thought.......
Why not just let people run whichever software they wish? On a device that they PAY for! The whole app store thing seems a little "Big brotherish". That's the entire vibe I have gotten from ATT & Apple since I purchased an Iphone. "You cant do this, Well we don't support that, and so on.... My previous Windows Mobile pda phone let me customize anything I wanted. Without breaking it out of jail or posting bond. There were all kinds of cool apps that were FREEWARE. Not the "lite" or "diet" versions available on the app store. As a music composer I create my own ring tones. You would think that I could put them on my "high-tech" Iphone hassle free? Not so much... For a device that I pay at the least $100 just to use. You would think there would be a little more customization?
Well say goodbye to the iPhone reign of touchscreen phones. Half the reason anyone got an i product was because of jailbreaking and hacking. With 17+ new Andriod phones arriving this quarter and Windows Mobile 6.5 and 7 on it's heels, there's absolutely no reason to pay for an iPhone.

You'll be surprised how many companies lock down their devices these days. Even companies like Archos who use Linux heavily lock down the device. The new firmware is unhackable.
unhackable for 17 secondes maybe...
Nothing is unhackable. It may be more difficult, to the point that it may seem impossible. As long as you can connect it to a computer, you can alter it somehow.
That doesn't mean someone will be able to hack it, and there being no hack doesn't mean it can't be done. Just nobody found it yet. And maybe the right people weren't looking because the truly technically savey are more drawn to less restricted devices, and of those that try to hack it it is because they are drawn by the challenge and not the device itself.
You'll be surprised how many companies lock down their devices these days. Even companies like Archos who use Linux heavily lock down the device. The new firmware is unhackable.
No... just not enough people care about the archos to spend the time and money to hack into it. There were about 45 million iPod touches and iPhones out in the wild in July of this year and when 3.0 was released it was supposed to be "unhackable"... that is until about a week and a half later.
With every new iPhone update jailbreaking is impossible for the time being, but it can and will be hacked. Nothing is unhackable.
Archos is an odd company. They try and come up with new markets then never run with it. I had the original Archos hard drive based MP3 player, which was the original MP3 player. It was a laptop hard drive with 4 rechargeable AA batteries built in. The thing was huge in today's standard, but I loved it. I used it till the HDD died, then I replaced it with a 40gb laptop one; at that time the largest iPod was still 20 gb!
But they never really upgraded it. It came out before the iPod, and when the first iPod came out it was just as big and bulky, but 3 times the price.
Headline the day after tomorrow:
Jailbreak-proof iPhone Jailbroken!
It is a futile attempt. Fail, Apple.
'no jailbreak for iPhone?' wrong...there's an App for that!!!
another example of apple and their bs. apple can try to stop them but they will always fail.dont they know by now that its only a matter of time till they re-hack it. again and again
+1. Not to mention people probably hacking (as in writing the actual code for the hack, etc) are probably smarter than the Apple people who worked on the iPhone, etc.
The only way to hack proof the iPhone is to not sell it. I guarantee you that a new hack will come out, it'll be just a matter of time.
Does Microsoft let you run what ever software you want on your xbox 360, sony on the PS3, Nintendo on the WII? Didn't think so! So why all the big stink about apple and the Iphone. Hack windows and they arrest you under the digital millenium copyright act. But hacking the software in the phone is ok. Those who have sony or samsung or lg phones, do you hack those as well, I haven't heard any complaints about not being able to run whatever I want on my samsung or sony phone.
didn't Nintendo tried this and bricked their Wii console?
nagra3 encryption hasnt been hacked yet. i want my ppv back
I bet the phone gets broken in record time.
