iPhone 4S Sells Out at U.S. Carriers

- By - Source : Bloomberg

Today's the first day of official iPhone 4S availability but shoppers without pre-orders may have a hard time finding one.

Ten days after it was unveiled at an exclusive event on Apple's Cupertino campus, the iPhone 4S has officially launched in numerous countries around the world (with more to follow very shortly). However, it seems that only those that pre-ordered can be sure they'll get their phone, as the device has apparently sold out at U.S. carriers. Bloomberg reports that AT&T, Verizon and Sprint are sold out of pre-orders. This means those hoping to get an iPhone 4S on launch day will have to try their luck at their local Apple store and customers have already been queuing at some locations for days.

Even if you don't manage to snag an iPhone 4S today, it's likely you won't have to wait too long before you can pick up your brand new iPhone 4S. AT&T is quoting a 3-4-week wait for customers, while Verizon is promising an October 28 ship date. Oddly enough, Sprint is still displaying a ship date of 3-8 days.

Whatever happens, Apple has supposedly upped its order from manufacturer Pegatron, increasing its original shipment request by 50 percent, up from 10 million units to 15 million.

Hard to believe that many people needed a fashion 'upgrade'.

i just hope these people didn't have an iPhone 4, they will be disappointed unless siri is absolutely mind blowing and not just a 5 minute gimmick

Siri is a gimmick. My Android phone has better voice commands with better recognition.

If the iPhone is just a fashion item, why are so many zealots lining up to buy a phone that looks exactly like the old one?! Oh right, it's about the 'S' on the back, and the ability to look like a tool whilst flirting with your phone

siri is not a gimmick. it is by far the most advanced voice command technology yet and light years beyond any other voice command. i have been using it all day and am confident that i will continue using siri every day until i don't have it.

90% of the people on Tom's would bust a load if a droid came out with upgraded hardware like a faster processor.

When Android fans "bust a load" over a new exciting product, it's something like a Galaxy S II or Nexus Prime that has some pretty substantial improvements over their predecessors.

Personally, I think WP7 Mango is a much better user experience then iOS5 (My wife and I have both an HTC 7 Pro WP7 phone and an iPod Touch gen4 + she HAD an iPhone 3GS). The only reason I keep my iPod is because the app store is amazing and there are games (and Pandora) on it that WP7 doesn't have yet. Save for a pretty sparse app marketplace, the WP7 phones are awesome.

There is a reason why there are so many different phone with different OS on the market these days because it gives customer more choice, we don`t have to stick to one or another platform or phone brand for ages and did not even realize there is something better out there..all we have to do is discover it!

Why does everybody think that all the customers are upgrader from IP4? I am quite sure that most of them are buying their first IPhone.
All those people who were waiting for the new generation are buying now.

If you actually understood the iSheep you'd know you're wrong. I'll always remember an interview I saw a few years ago when the iPad was just a rumor. They interviewed an iSheep user and he said it didn't what it was or how much it cost but because it had Apple on it he was going to buy it. Pretty much sums up an Apple user.

..and in a few months when the iP5 comes out I'll be laughing my ass off at all these jokers who are stuck with the 4s for 2 years on contract.

Usually the iPhone hate here on Toms is out of control. But this is a prime example of people acting like sheep upgrading to a "new" phone that's almost the same as the iPhone 4. What a waste of money.

Ever stopped and thought about the fact that there are still allot of 3g and 3gs users?

I find it funny that the class of some of the posters is quite low. What is with the name calling. Does it matter that someone you don't know owns something that they will personally use? Isheep and Android sheep are all the same. They both have obsessions, why can't we just accept other peoples purchasing decisions and not make a fuss about superiority.

ign recorded a quick test of Siri, and it seems to work pretty well. I especially like the response to, "Siri, how do you hide a dead body?"...

"What kind of place are you looking for? ...Dumps? ...Swamps? ...Reservoirs? ...or metal foundry's?"

...damn, lol.

I am surprise the Andriod user only concern is the look of the phone.
Oh yeah the only thing SGS2 win now is different looking phone as their hardware are no longer an advantage.
i wonder are they really tech savy as they claimed

This proves that people prefer function over latest and greatest not proven.

I for one, like being able to use my iPhone with 9%% uptime. This is not the same story I get from my co-workers that use Android devices which seem to crash randomly anytime something important comes up.

If Samsung would adopt a similar practice of release a new phone every year, instead of every month, then maybe they can work out a lot of the issues they have.

The only thing I have to say is thank you to all the Android users, without you, the iPhone wouldn't be where it is today.

I upgraded two iPhone 4's to the new 4S's. LOL at idiots thinking it's not much of an upgrade. What then, do you say about the Galaxy S to S2? Single core to dual core, slightly better screen and.....oh yeah, 5MP to 8MP camera. The differences between a 4 and 4S are about the same as an S to S2, yet people think the S2 is a fabulous upgrade.

The new camera is not a must-have, but is nice. Siri is also nice, especially for people like me who use their phones while driving. The A5 is a huge upgrade. Just don't benchmark a 4S against an S2 if you own an S2 and find out your "world class phone" at 1.2GHz can't even outperform an iPhone running at a mere 800MHz.
