iPhone 2G and 3G Get Video Recording (Finally)
Party like its 2005!
The iPhone has long been criticized for the fact that, despite it being a revolutionary device, it lacks some features that have been around for years. Perfect examples of this are MMS and video. Well, those of you with an iPhone 2G or 3G will be glad to know Apple has approved an application that will allow you to take videos with your phone.
iVideoCamera won't give you the same functionality that 3GS users have, but it's a start. Clips are limited to one minute in length and video can only be shot at a maximum rate of around three frames per second (3GS boasts 30fps). Resolution-wise, you're looking at 160×213 (compared with the 640×480 SD-quality video shot by the 3GS).
Costing 99 cents, the Apple Blog points out that iVideoCamera's approval basically represents an admission on Apple's part that the only the only limitation heretofore that had prevented the older devices from shooting video was a software limitation. That said, if you are a die-hard iPhone fan, you probably won't care about that or the limitations.

3 frames per second? I'd rather kiss my cousin...
3 frames per second? I'd rather kiss my cousin...
3 FPS? That's not video. That's stop motion.
>> 3fps

>>160x213
failing at 3 fps!
So it essentially draws 3 seriously-crappy-quality still pictures a second.
Clever enough but I'd hardly call it "video recording".
What do you want, phone that can make and take call, phone that can take 12MP pictures and phone that can record 1080p for more than 30 minutes? what else... can change your diaper and burp you, make you warm and comfy? get you a job and find you a girlfriend too?
there has been a app around for a wile that shoots video just like the 3gs

Stockholm.
I got a good laugh from this article. =]
@ 3 fps, i would call it a hardware limitation for sure.
So another words: Apple made a bling bling phone that lacks some basic features and now that people have been crying about it they now approve an app that allows these features, but with limitations. See this is why I hate Apple and they way they do business.
Wait wait wait wait wait.....the 3Gs is the only iPhone that can take video? Geez...not that I ever use the feature buy my generic Nokia phone that is two years old can do that, and at a much higher frame rate than 3 FPS!
The new phonebook is here! The new phonebook is here! My ancient Casio cell phone could shoot video... 4 years ago.
why bother??? Just get CYCORDER, I've been using it for months, definitely way more then 3 frames, and NO size limit.
AND IT'S FREE!!!!
BUT WAIT GUEZ - YOUR FRIENDS WILL LOVE AND ADORE YOU OVER 9000! TIMES MORE IF U GET THIS APP!
Apples strategy summarized.
If you go into the camera application, it displays video that the camera sees in real time.
So, if what the camera sees can be displayed real time (resolution on screen), then I don't see why that same video data can't be saved to a file instead of being displayed on the screen.
So, Apple is full of crap. Maybe 3gs enables higher resolution capture at faster frame rates, but the 3g should do whater the screen resolution is at fast frame rates.
THAT'S AS LAME AS LAME GETS..................
If you go into the camera application, it displays video that the camera sees in real time.
Try moving the camera around and see it will start to lag and the screen will split , thats cuz of the low FPS.

In my opinion, not worth it in the slighest sense. You're almost better off just telling people what happened. Just not worth it at all, and yet they're making us PAY if we want it!

Still, I bet it´s more than 3 FPS, way to reward the costumers for spending their money in apple hardware.
lol ... i wonder if thats due to hardware limitation
There's an attack for that?
My G1 can take video of frustrated iPhone users all day long...
Anyone else think Sliem has to be an iPhone user?..
I swear Tom's posted an article on delusional iPhone users recently too...

Compressing and storing to memory takes a lot of work.
lol, the jailbroken 2g/3g's have had mpeg2 384 x 288 @ 13fps for quite a bit of time. Of course, it is not perfect, but it is not limited to a creepy 1 minute.
Wait, they are charging to add a feature that most other phones have including one of there own, this is why people don't like company like Apple.
Poor iPhone users!, They live in a prehistoric era!

How'd you know?
