Not tempted by Motorola's DROID? Fear not, for the HTC Hero has just been confirmed to run Android 2.0.
TechTree reports that HTC is working on an Android 2.0 update for the Hero and cites the following statement from the company.
"Yes, we are working on an Eclair update for the HTC Hero. Because Eclair is a significantly enhanced release, it will require some time to update Sense for this new version of the Android OS. Please be patient while we work to provide you with a tightly integrated experience like the one you are already enjoying on your Hero."
The news makes the HTC Hero the second device running Android 2.0. First is the Motorola DROID, which launches next week, on November 6. Any happy Hero owners in the house? Let us know what you think of 2.0 as soon as you can!

the motorolla one seems better then this..
It would really be cool if tom's could do a review of this and droid side by side.
I am impressed that the Android phones are offering upgrades. With my Windows Mobile phones, we have to rely on people cooking up custom ROMs. They have the advantage of no bloatware, but don't seem to last as long as official ROMs before slowing down.
And that is not because Microsoft doesn't release updates; the phone companies don't release updates because they want us to upgrade phones!
I agree, someone out there please make the phone companies pass on the frigan software/firmware upgrades!
I gots a G1 and love it. Hoping that the 2.0 update will be available for this venerable phone soon. I don't mind if I can't do that cool LED flash on my G1...
I like the Hero except for that stupid lip at the front and that completely killed it for me. Feels awkward in just about every way imaginable but none as annoying as having it in your jeans pocket and that stupid lip preventing the phone from lying flat against your leg.
I like the look of the Hero! It looks simply and robust. I'm also surprised the words "iPhone killer" didn't appear anywhere in the article.
Hopefully once they get it running on the Hero, we'll get it on the Dream/G1 too. Unfortunately it looks like the Hero has more memory and built-in storage, which hopefully won't exclude Eclair from the Dream.
they need to come out with the 2.0 update soon . Im going back and forth between my hero and my blackberry. If 2.0 comes out soon I may keep my hero.
