28. Office Applications With SYSmark 2004 SE
The SYSmark 2004 SE benchmarks concentrate exclusively on performance; battery life is irrelevant. These tests are designed to run with the test machine plugged into a wall socket. As does MobileMark 2005, SYSmark 2004 SE uses real applications for its benchmark tests. Scripts that simulate typical user activities run automatically to enable this test suite to conduct its various measurements.
The SYSmark 2004 SE tests themselves are grouped into two distinct benchmark scenarios: Internet Content Creation and Office Productivity. Within the Internet Content Creation scenario there are three sets of tests: 3-D Content, 2-D Content and Web Publication. The same goes for the Office Productivity scenario, the test sets of which are called Communication (e-mail, calendar management and Web browsing), Document Creation and Data Analysis.
As is the case with the MobileMark 2005 overall performance metric, all SYSmark 2004 SE values measured are derived from average response times in relation to a standard test machine equipped with average components and rated at 100 points to provide a frame of reference. The office productivity results from MobileMark 2005 and those from SYSmark are not directly comparable to one another.
Here, you'll find the results we obtained with the SYSmark 2004 SE benchmarks for the HP Pavilion dv8000z and the four comparison devices. Our analysis of and conclusions based on these results follow.
