10. Power Supply

The small 65-Watt power supply is compact.

The 65-Watt power supply brick measures only 4.13" x 1.18" (10.5 cm x 3 cm) and weighs about 11 oz (323 g). Thus, it takes up very little room in a carrying bag. That's not true for the power hook-up: In Europe, HP includes a fused power cable along with the PSU unit. This cable takes up more space in a carrying case than the PSU itself (the power cable that comes with the laptop in North American is much more compact). But with this power supply, the notebook battery takes a full charge in about two and half hours.

Our only criticism of the notebook's power system stems from how the power input connector connects to the side of the notebook itself. It projects a bit too far beyond the case for our taste (or for tight surroundings); a right angle connector would have been a much better alternative.

The input power connector projects out too far from the case; about 2" (5 cm) from the side of the notebook.

Battery

The Pavillion dv8000z is equipped with a powerful 63-Wh battery.

The powerful 63-Wh battery weighs about 20 oz (500 g), but delivers an astonishingly long battery lifetime of up to four hours.
