11. Onboard WLAN And PAN Module (Bluetooth)
Our test model was equipped with both a Broadcom WLAN card and a Bluetooth module. In terms of reception quality, data throughput and energy saving functions, the Broadcom WLAN module holds its own against a comparable Intel module. We were unable, at any rate, to detect any differences in normal everyday use.

A Broadcom 802.11b/g module is responsible for wireless network connections.
The integrated Bluetooth module enables the system's microphone and speakers to be used as a kind of hands-free cell phone kit. The cell phone is first connected to the notebook via Bluetooth using the voice gateway profile. When the cell phone receives an incoming call, the caller's number is displayed in the quick start bar next to the Bluetooth symbol on the notebook's desktop. The module can also be used to set up a so-called Personal Area Network (PAN) between the notebook and another Bluetooth-rated PC. Data can then be exchanged between the computers over this Bluetooth network.
