Last Player Falls; Halo 2 Online is Officially Dead
Now on to the three newer Halo games on the Xbox 360.
Microsoft shut down the original Xbox Live service nearly a month ago, but a group of hardcore Halo 2 fans have tried their darnedest to keep the fight alive. Late last month we reported on more than a dozen gamers who were keeping their Xboxes powered on and connected, but slowly they were dropping due to connection issues.
Then just yesterday, there was one left – gamertag APACHE N4SIR. He was the last one standing. Last night, he was disconnected from the game and so ended the era of online Halo 2 play, CNet reported.
As one door closes, another one opens. Microsoft has offered each of the players who joined in keeping Halo 2 alive a free pass into the Halo: Reach multiplayer beta.

That is pretty cool of Microsoft to do that, considering they took away the servers for H2 and all.
Why did they want to stay with halo 2 so much?
Why did they want to stay with halo 2 so much?
Maybe they liked the game? o.O
Maybe they like living in the past with graphics that are crap. Or maybe they have not realized that they are not in high school any more and having a "11 pm bed time" is not cool.
Or maybe they are insane and have not realized THERE IS LIFE AFTER HALO, GET OVER IT YOU FREAKIN MORONS.
/rant
Some people just like old games. Take for example Warcraft 2, people still play that online so /shrug

Or maybe they were having a good laugh, keeping a game they enjoyed alive, for little cost to their lives? A lot of people prefer older games. For instance, Counter Strike is still more well known than Counter Strike: Source.
I don't see where you're coming from attacking them so much.
I still play the original (1993) Master of Orion regularly and I'd be pretty pissed off if someone told me I couldn't play it anymore.

I was going to say exactly that. I still play old games. I think older games are better than most of the newer versions that come out. And I too still play MoO2 using DosBox onine.
This is why I prefer computer games without a central server. If I want to start my own Unreal Tournament (or insert other classic pc game here) server to play against people, i can.
Remember Heat? I wish there was still a service like that which provided the framework for IPX network games.
Maybe they were sold a game that included online play and like to keep playing it as it was offered. I still play online games from over a decade ago and I would be pretty mad if suddenly the online play function stopped working.
Agreed, i still play what is in my opinion is the best RTS ever, Age of Empires 2, sadly the last of the official servers hosting it went down a few years back
That was nice of Microsoft to do that.
I preferred H2 over H3...
Then again, I prefer a mouse and keyboard.
Would be nice if all online games offered both official and unofficial dedicated and non-dedicated server options.
That was nice of Microsoft to do that.
Yeah, and it's only worth it if those people have an XB360. If they don't, then it's worth nothing.

Wow I still play that game to and enjoyed building my own maps which are far more easy than AOE3. It is a shame that the AI isn't that good when it comes to islands.

No not really, CS 1.6 is pretty much dying.
And btw CSS isnt exactly a new game.
I'd only be pissed if I got told I couldn't play Diablo 2 anymore.
I know several people who still play everquest online and that came out in 99. World of warcraft is over 5 years old now, I'd be lost if they turned those servers off!
I still play the first SimCity and Civilization, and they are still among the best games ever made imho.
too bad
This is a nice reminder that people shouldn't take the kind of crap that is imposed to them by the likes of Ubisoft and others. It's a matter of time until the content they enjoy is taken away from them.
I play Deus-Ex online multiplayer again now thanks to steam i dont care for halo but atleast microsuck was nice enuff to beta invite them
I have the whole super mario series and zelda games on my Android phone. I also play diablo2 and Fable the lost chapters. Like I always say older games have better stories and gameplay because the devs didn't focus on just the graphics.
I still play Counter Strike Source, so...
i still play Half life! i like to stick the old CD in once and awhile!

I miss AOEII. Along with Rise of Nations they are my favorite RTS game.
Remember Heat? I wish there was still a service like that which provided the framework for IPX network games.
Heat, TEN, WON, MPlayer, Kali, Khan, Microsoft Zone, they have all fallen as the games they supported are "old" and newer games have on-line matchmaking ability's as standard
I still play Counter Strike Source, so...
More people play CS 1.6 and it came out 5-6 years before source
Imagine that
(arguably best multiplayer game ever)
My brother still likes playing Decent 3
and I still like playing Freelancer and Need for Speed Underground 2.
I won a tournament on Heat, for funny enough Unreal Tournament. Lost in the first brackets and they had a loser bracket and won that. $75
I guess accepting their money took my amateur status away, lol...
Now those are hardcore gamers. I'm sure Bungie appreciates the dedication (probably while simultaneously being annoyed
).
Still play cs 1.6, every once in a while I will jump on quakeworld.
