10. Performance - Mode comparison
To get a better feel for the non-buffered performance of the ReadyNAS in its different modes, it's more helpful to look at the tests for a 128 MByte file size. Figures 26 and 27 show write performance for the ReadyNAS 600 and X6 with 100Mbps and 1Gbps network connections respectively.
Be sure to note the almost 4 to 1 scale change between 100Mbps and 1Gbps graphs. I've also included TeraStation results for comparison plus ReadyNAS jumbo frame results since I had the data.

The results once again show the ReadyNAS besting the TeraStation at both 100Mbps and 1Gbps. They also show two levels of degraded performance when the ReadyNAS is "syncing" a volume.

Figure 27's legend is misleading because it appears that the ReadyNAS 600 takes a bigger performance hit during the background volume-building process. But the two syncing plots actually show different processes.
The "X6 Syncing" line shows performance while the X6 was expanding from two drives to four. While the "600 Syncing" trace shows a bigger performance hit resulting during the volume-building process that takes place during a reset-to-factory-default process. The difference is great enough in both cases that users with heavy file transfer activity during the syncing will probably notice the difference.
Figures 28 and 29 show read performance for 100 and 1Gbps LAN connections respectively.

The ReadyNAS' superior read performance really comes through in these plots, with even degraded performance during both types of syncing tests shown in Figure 29 beating out the TeraStation.

The drop in performance for the ReadyNAS 600 at a 2048 kByte record size is just a glitch typical of what is sometimes produced during an hours-long iozone test run.
