Your Bathtub Will Glow in Sync With the Music

Dare we say it? The bathroom for Tron.

For the Reece Bathroom Innovation Award, designer Melissa Sopel created the Glowing Bath, a bathtub concept with a luminescent faucet and surface that changes colors. An acrylic shell evenly distributes the light produced by an array of LEDs embedded into this bathtub’s base.

The default mode allows the user to choose a color to bathe in, potentially allowing deep blues for relaxation, muted yellows to add a refreshing kick, or even rich reds for sensual experiences. If the bather wants a more dynamic cleansing experience, they can plug in their MP3 player into the Glowing Bath. The bathtub will automatically change colors to match the beats of the audio.

Even if the Glowing Bath wins the 2010 Reece Award (it’s a finalist), the transition to the retail market isn’t a sure thing. So let’s just wait and see.
