Game Boy, Phone Used in High School Bomb Scare

- By - Source : Tom's Guide US

Not the best way to become popular with the authorities.

Portable gaming systems are great companions at school (not for use during class, but only during breaks, of course), but not when used to make a fake bomb.

18-year-old Lars O'Mara was arrested under felony charges after allegedly planting a fake bomb in the restroom of his highschool in Pensacola, Fla. The fake bomb was made from a cell phone attached to a Nintendo Game Boy and a few protruding wires.

The fake bomb was spotted by a fellow student, which then prompted a school evacuation that lasted over an hour. Following the evacuation, only about a quarter of students returned to school that same day.

O'Mara admitted that he made the device to gain popularity and to get people out of class.

What happened to the other 3 quarters of the students?

well my guess is you can add up, parents taking their kids home, and students skipping the rest of the day...

This is nuts. This kid did nothing wrong and its no different than the kids back in the 70's trowing the fire alarm. You got caught, had a talking to, maybe some after school detention and that was it. Now you have these fascist pigs saying this kid is a terrorist and is a felon? BS!

Well, our government has an entire Department dedicated to bringing "attention" to scares like this one. The incidents need to be high profile to justify the continued power grabbing and undermining of Constitutional rights, so of COURSE they are going to blow things like this out of proportion just to justify their own existence.

Without "hate" and "fear" and "terrorists" people might not be so willing to give up their rights...

I figured they all got blown up by a real bomb in the parking lot.

:/ who would think that was a real bomb? If it was a bomb, then how can anyone think a home-made bomb of that size can do any damage?

I don't get it. Why do people do this? If you want popularity, do a real stunt, not something that will earn you time in jail. That gets you the wrong type of popularity.
