Egypt Advising Cell Phone Users on How to Behave

It's time to pack your bags and move to Egypt.

We've all been there. You're sitting in a waiting room (or anywhere else where leaving isn't an option) and some kid is playing every single ringtone that came bundled with his cell phone over and over again. Worse still, he has some of those external speakers hooked up and is playing awful music. If you, like me, think that some folks could afford to be a little more considerate when it comes to using their phones in public, then perhaps you'd like to room with me when I move to Egypt.

The BBC reports that Egypt's official telecoms regulatory body has released a 16 point ethics guide, aiming to "'regulate the users' behaviors on using mobile phones especially with the increasing and intense problems and irresponsible behavior of some users of mobile technology."

Included in the guide is advice about choosing a 'non-annoying ringtone,' and not putting people on speaker when you're in the company of others. The guide points out that, while mobile phone technology is considered "one of the greatest technologies (to) emerge in the last few years to serve humanity," it should not be used to "annoy or tease" other people.

The code also advises against sending messages containing inappropriate words or indecent pictures and phoning people during times of rest.

though i agree with the logic of this, i think that this problem wont be solved by censorship. If i had/needed to do something that was a dont do on that list i would probably do it anyway. People just have to learn how to respect the wellbeing of others.

No one is going to follow the guide... well maybe a few.

meh, as long as they are kept as guidelines it should be fine. I hate it when people have annoying ringtones and it takes them forever to answer.
And hate even more those so called external speakers that sound like tweeters.

Commit certain crimes and they will probably cut them off for you.

Point 12: When using your cell phone as a remote trigger for a roadside IED, be sure to place the phone in silent mode to prevent early detection.

its not the 3rd reich or censorship.. it's a ethics guide... anybody here that reads the whole article??...""The BBC reports that Egypt's official telecoms regulatory body has released a 16 point ethics guide""
I totally agree with it because when I have to sit at a doctors office or any other office for that matter and I have an idiot that's playing every damn ringtone on his cell over and over again I want to stick that damn cell down his throat.

Well egypt's got 80 million people, 12 million in Cairo itself everyday. If nobody says anything it'll get bothersome.

No not really. Please don't assume if you don't know any facts.

If this means not putting up with 'tards on the train who think playing music through their phone is a good idea, then I'm all for it.

haha..I wonder what else you would trade for your genitals.

Come on dude, you prefer having no future than going to Egypt?

As for the guidelines, they're quite interesting, let's see if these are adopted in other places.

Have a phone that rings, not everyone has the same music tastes.
Don't wake me up in the middle of the night with your bullshit.
Don't text me words harder to read than it is to understand a drunk.

A phone is a communication tool, use it properly.

And yeah, I'd bunk with you in Egypt Jane... however, I'm sure half the perverts on Toms also would...

Actually, it's "stupider."

Yeah like funner is ok now. Actually its correct to say more fun not funner and more stupid not stupider.

Parents, teach your children well. The school should reinforce this basic training on proper social behavior. If he still grows up to be an A-Hole, maybe he'll meet another bigger A-Hole who will teach him something.

No, people are too stupid to comprehend the concept of making sense or having common sense. And looking at most parents nowadays they don't give a shit about what their kid does to annoy the rest of us, when we try to bring it up they claim that the kid likes you so much and annoying behavior is how he shows it...this is exactly why the population is getting dumber, they don't learn what common sense is. Moderation is the key!
