3. Pleasant Surfaces And Bi-Color: The PCG-Z1SP In Images

The PCG-Z1SP sports a stylish, cool, bi-color design. Wristpad and display frame are silver, contrasting with the black keyboard and housing sides. The housing surface is pleasant to the touch.

The device's right and left edges form "wings" that aren't just empty and meaningless design elements. The control lamps for the WLAN, Bluetooth module and the battery are in the right wing.

Right "function wing."

The modem port jack and the on/ off switch sits above the wing. The wireless functions can be turned on and off using the slide switch on the right above the keyboard. Two keys (P1, P2) may be programmed with functions such as "maximum display brightness." That 'design' can, on occasion, go too far is demonstrated by the control lamps for the hard drive, shift lock and NumLock. They are difficult to spot during operation because they're hidden under the grille which also prevents dust from getting into the loudspeakers. The system sound doesn't win any prizes: although it's clear, the integrated, software-activated bass booster sounds rather flat.
