Parents of Balloon Boy Hit With $42,000 Fine

- By - Source : Tom's Guide US

We all remember the Balloon Boy incident. What a huge waste of tax dollars that fiasco was. Silly parents and their desperate bid for a reality TV show!

The Denver Post reports that the parents of Falcon Heene have been told they must pay $42,000 because of the time and resources they wasted in October. The family's lawyer announced that Richard Heene and Mayumi Iizuka have been hit with a massive tab from local, state and federal agencies after they tricked authorities into thinking their six-year-old son Falcon had been carried away in a homemade aircraft powered by hot air balloon.

When the balloon came down and the boy was nowhere to be seen, people assumed the worst; the boy had fallen out of the balloon. Hours of searching later, Falcon was found hiding in his own house. Falcon's parents insisted the whole thing was not a hoax but their son gave the game away during an interview. When asked why he decided to hide, Falcon said, "We did it for the show."

Let this be a lesson to all of you: If you're trying to get your completely crazy family on telly, building a hot air balloon and tricking people into thinking your kid is inside is not going to do it. You'll need a rocket or something instead.

Click here to play the balloon boy game. You too can waste taxpayers' money!

Is this $42,000 the actual sentence? The prosecutor supposadly told the Judge the actual cost was "at least $47,000" to emergency services.

CNN and other news sites are also reporting that the dad was sentenced to 90 days in jail (some of which will be spent on work release).

coldmast :
I think their going to have to amortize it over 42 years to get their tax(I'm Canadian)money back from these balloon parents.

What are you even trying to say? Dude did you take an evening accounting class and learned the word "amortize" and you were inclined to use it? What you wrote makes no sense at all. LMAO "...amortize it over 42 years..." HAHA you're a moron!

The news outlets should pay us the same for wasting our time of over-coverage.

LOL!

The easiest way for them to make money is off the event... and they can't make a dime or risk years of jail time!

Even if they got some sort of "show", and the adverts is "The Nutty family - the Balloon boy family!".

That kid is screwed for life.

20 years from now: "Hey! You're the balloon boy!"

$42,0000 and jail time. I think that's fair. Poor kid though, always will be Balloon Boy.

Now if the government would only do this to Wall St....! Since Wall St. has wasted FAR FAR MORE than this little ballon fiasco ever could. This ballon stunt is like a hair folicle versus Wall St's 4 Billion heads of hair!

For those of you demonizing the gentlemen who suggested the boy should be killed, perhaps you should realize that he is made out of the same genetic material as the people who staged this.

I'm sure you think that, somehow, they'll raise him to be absolutely nothing like themselves, however!

(Hint: Please click the thumbs down button per my factual statements -- thank you.)

No, the moral is don't let your stupid kids join you for interviews because they'll ruin the stunt and destroy the entire family. That kid has to live with that the rest of his life. He'll grow up to be a heroin addict.

I never got to find out that the kid was hiding in their own house and also that he gave away the all along plan of doing it for the few minutes of fame, even though for me all that it did when first heard about it was get me going on saying how stupid and inresponsible parents can really be when they are anything like those morrons.

Anyhow, as it turns they are even more stupid than I first thought of and sure as fk glad that they are paying for it. Retards.
