Microsoft Cell Phones Confirmed, Verizon-bound

- By - Source : Tom's Guide US

Leaked marketing material shows Microsoft and Verizon have plans to launch an MS-brand cell phone in April.

Microsoft's Project Pink has been talked about for a long time. Rumored to be the codename for several Microsoft-branded smartphones, everyone was surprised when last month's Mobile World Congress yielded no Project Pink announcements. Away from the conference, rumors were still rolling in, with possible specs for two devices called the Turtle and the Pure.

Today leaked documents obtained by Gizmodo suggest at least one of the devices will hit Verizon stores in late April. The very square looking Turtle will be a social networking phone, with the marketing material carrying the tag line, "Make your network more social." The other phone we've been seeing, the horizontal slider dubbed the Pure, wasn't included in the marketing material. That said, additional sources told Gizmodo it's also heading to Verizon.

Strangely enough it doesn't look like either of the phones will run Windows Phone 7. What is Microsoft thinking launching its brand spanking new cell phones and not including its brand spanking new OS. Will people want to purchase these phones if they're not running Windows Phone 7?

Check out Gizmodo for more.

bad microsoft. I think this is an example of how disconnected Microsoft is. I bet the team that put this together isn't even in contact with the windowsphone 7 team. This likely was in motion before 7 but all it will do is instill a poor public image of microsoft phones.

Looks like Microsoft is still behind on the technology bandwagon... when will they get rid of Balmer already ?!?! Microsoft, you need to be first to the plate with a new idea.
