Microsoft: Master Chief is Our Sugar Daddy

Microsoft will continue the Halo franchise after Bungie bows out.
Ok, so perhaps Microsoft didn't really call Master Chief its sugar daddy. However Microsoft's Alex Cutting, producer of Halo 3: ODST, told Videogamer that the Halo franchise is certainly Microsoft's "center piece," meaning that Master Chief and the gang reel in the big bucks like Nintendo's Mario and Sega's (classic) Sonic the Hedgehog. Essentially, Halo is the company's bread and butter in the gaming department.
"Microsoft Game Studios is the publisher that brought Halo: Combat Evolved to the scene, and we realized we had a good thing going there," he said. "It is a center piece for us. We will invest in Halo as much as we can to make sure it’s a healthy, respected, fun franchise, and we will continue to do so."
His words validate comments made by Halo developer Bungie, stating that although next year's Halo: Reach title might be the company's last foray in the Halo universe, it's a sure bet that Microsoft will carry on the torch. Bungie's statement is backed by future Halo-specific projects including the Halo Legends anime series, and the Halo Waypoint hub on Xbox Live. There also seems to be more bubbling in the Microsoft cauldron, however Cutting doesn't seem willing to share the details
"The Halo universe is obviously very rich in detail," he said. "There are a lot of stories to be told there. As far as the future of the franchise, I can guarantee it’s something Microsoft is going to continue to invest in and make new products and exciting stuff, but I’m not going to be able to tell you, or even concept what other stuff we’re doing."

Hail to the Master Chief, baby!
I will attend Master Chief's retirement party.
Ok, Mario has cartoonish appeal, which allows the character to be in about 95-96% of the games produced by Nintendo (discounting the 100 or so Pokemon games). Throw in the at times painfully stereotypical Italian catch-phrases ("Its-a me, Mario!"), and you have a character that can last (plus a weekday-morning show I remember from elementary school doesn't hurt).
Master Chief is a cybernetic/ethereal/whatever marine that shoots things, not quite the same genre. Granted, Halo games sell like hotcakes, but I doubt we'll see "Master Chief Cart Racing" or "Master Chief Tennis" any time soon. Not only that, but they'd seriously dillute and destroy the Halo franchise long before they recoup any of their X-Box losses.
Sony tried with Crash Bandicoot, and while I liked the original (never beat it), it just didn't have the same appeal.
Hopefully Microsoft's takeover of Halo doesn't resemble Activision's takeover of Guitar Hero. Talk about ruining a great franchise.
As long as RoosterTeeth productions keeps making Red vs Blue series I don't care what MS does with Halo.
DUDE!!!
Could it hurt to say the truth in the title. I entered this article thinking about sugar daddy.
I love me some Halo, but let's not jump the shark and have Master Chief at the Olympics. PLEASSSEEE!
Taking away Master Chief from Bungie is a lot like taking away sonic from the Sonic Team. Just doesn't work out as well.
wait wait wait wait i have the answer. lets take the top selling game for microsoft and do what blizzard did. make tons of money on a MMORPG. i first person shooter MMORPG that would just be grand they could make everyone pay double th price for WOW and everyone will be happy. master chief can live on and microsoft can make billions. and did i also destroy i game that everyone loves just like blizzard. war craft is just not the same. strategy to 3rd person role playing comeon. it would like Halo turning into am old school scroll type mario game. just doesn't work.
Sorry WOW fans its just not warcraft at all. and i have played them all. But i do love DOTA.
When Microsoft starts bringing these newer Halo goes to PC (and does a decent job doing it),then I might impressed. Otherwise, who cares about Microsoft and its console...

. "Master Chief" is a senior Naval enlisted grade, mostly equivalent to a Master Sergeant in the Marine Corps, Army & Air Force.

Actually I'd guess Navy SEAL
Yours Trooly,

hail to the chief anyone?
Greedy bitches, I'll bet microsoft blows the chief's reputation. Probably will make "A Gay Ballad of Masterchief" like the latest gta4 dlc.
All glory to the master chief @-@
Ins't Halo dead yet?
I liked Halo 2... that's all.
What's the point of Microsoft bringing more Halo to the PC? Noone would buy it. We have good FPS games... duh

Spartan-117 is a marine. He is one of the few who's body has accepted most of the enhancments of the program and didn't go batshit insane. He's bigger, stronger, faster, and smarter than all the other recruits, and as such the rest of the spartans look to him as a leader. He is also very lucky, and the sentient AI "Cortana" picked him as a host by observing this fact first hand.
Most of the Spartans were wiped out during the Fall of Reach when the Covenant forces glassed the surface of the planet - or shortly thereafter.

Hear you and agree on that one. MS paid bungie squillions to take it off PC and give us crappy ports from xbox instead. On the otherhand it's refreshing to be put off a big franchise like this before I had any good memories of it.
Yeah, I wish Halo had never been ruined by M$ paying megabucks to put it on the Xbox. The PC port of Halo 1 was an enjoyable game, but a dirty, nasty, despicable hack of a port.
Too bad he got smoked by Bub and Bob.
Master Chief is an overworked bitch pimped out far too much to allow anything new to come from what was a decidedly mediocre game to begin with.
I've got better things to do than playing games.
Bungie's involvement is the only reason Halo was worth playing at all, and Microsoft interfered with that from the start, so I can't think of anything ood coming out of Microsoft milking an already tired franchise.
What is so hard to understand for so many people? Making more Halo related games when they have been selling best than almost anything else? It's like you want me to believe you would stop selling me a fresher POS even if I would be paying you for it each time you would give me one. And lets not be too funny... Halo is one of the currently greatest franchises. Like it or not.
How about Halo3 for the PC if you really want the money MS.
