Droid X is Verizon's Answer to Sprint's EVO 4G
Verizon is supposed to announce the Motorola Droid X this day next week but Engadget has managed to snag an exclusive preview of the device, which they're calling Verizon's answer to the HTC EVO 4G.
Aside from looking fairly similar to the EVO 4G, the Droid X also gives the nation's first 4G handset a run for its money when it comes to specs. With a 4.4-inch, FWVGA (854x480) display; an 8-megapixel camera with flash (capable of shooting video in 720p); Android 2.1; a keyboard that boasts a multitouch option, which means holding down two keys at once results in both letters being recognized; a 1GHz ARMv7 processor; 8GB of storage; and special battery management software, this phone definitely falls into the high-end category of smartphones.
Like we said, Verizon is expected to make an announcement about this device on June 23, so stay tuned for more!
In the meantime, head on over to Engadget and have a gander at the demonstration videos they've got.

WOW it's really thin. But then they have to go and add that awkward bulge by the camera >.< if they could eliminate then it would look sooo much better.
I still prefer a physical slide out keyboard... :-(
The phone makes it look like the hand has trouble holding it!
Where is the webcam?? Its needs a webcam to be top of the line, because in 3 months most phones will probably have a webcam to fallow apple.
Looks huge, but otherwise cool. Competition is great!!! Thanks to all the Androids and iPhones to push this segment at an incredible pace. (Well, okay maybe a little thanx to Palm and Microsoft too along with Blackberry.) Not long anymore and for what's feasible with such a small screen, but laptops become more and more obsolete for most private users. (No matter which vendor or provider you hate/love, the big players all are doing their part in this race!)
I can't wait to type on a phone keyboard that recognizes multiple keys being held down at the same time. Finally, typing lololololololololololololololololololololololololololololol will be nice and easy.
Me likey..need one now (wipes drool from his chin)
EVO has a web cam already. Way before the apple release. Also 4G capability.
So much for the iPhone 4G (in more ways than one).
Wait, so before people have received their HTC Incredible pre-orders, Verizon is going to launch another phone that is supposed to be better? Doesn't that kind of screw their own customers?

Depends on the price. They could sell the Droid X at a higher premium.
FRONT FACING CAMERA?!?!
Ok: Sprint = HTC EVO 4G
Verizon = Motorolad Droid X
T-Moible = HTC HD2, which is now dated! And Windows!
Come on HTC HD3, or HD2 Pro (with slide out keyboard)!!!

You have a 30 day limbo period where you can return your phone for a different model =P.
Not a fan of verizon but seeing the demo of this phone and HUGE screen makes me want one. Ive been with AT&T since they were Bellsouth Mobility in the 90s but seeing this makes me want to ditch my 32gb 3GS Iphone... Update, I dropped by the local verizon store and they had no idea what I was talking about they had to go to engadget to look it up lol. They were as amazed as I was seeing it. I bet it will run $299 with 2 yr contract and $100 month, but Im just speculating at this point. Also battery life has got to suck maybe 6 - 8 hours a day...

I could have sworn the evo was out and shown off before the iphone 4.
I left Verizon a few years ago. Sadly, I have an Iphone, but there was nothing better at the time. Thinking about getting the Evo in Feb when my contract ends with At&t. I still have to say, everything HTC puts out looks/feels better/smoother than Motorola. Plus Verizon comes with a premium price tag which is why I left them in the first place. I have a second phone for work with Sprint and it works great. I get service no matter where I am with Sprint and I can hardly say the same for At&t.

T Mobile has the Samsung Galaxy S on the way. Its similar to the Droid X, and the EVO4G... What differentiates it, is that it uses a slightly superior Samsung designed "Hummingbird" Cortex A-8 processor, and uses a super AMOLED screen. The drawback to the Galaxy S, is tacky build materials (glittery silver plastic of gayness).... Which is nothing a thin Seido case can't fix.
Froyo
lol 1st comment said bulge...
As my contract end date approaches, I have been looking at the HTC EVO 4. I wasn't ready to ditch verizon for sprint. The lack of a forward facing camera is odd though. Good to see verizon has a large display android phone, I thought I was going to have to settle for the incredible.
Where is his pinkie finger?
looks gigantic, meh dont really like the design
i will still go for Evo4 mate ~
What's with phones getting so giant that you need a purse to transport them? Not into the bigger is better trend. Next thing they're going to be "machoed" out with roll bars and G-FORCE shock absorbers etc. There'll be an HTC ALPHA GLADIATOR H1 BLACK OPS EDITION or something.
Can we go back to phones that are actually convenient to transport and fit comfortably in the pockets of one's clothing? I'm a guy. I don't carry a purse and I shouldn't need a backpack to own a phone.
I think I'll go for the Droid 2. The specs on this look impressive, but man it looks big for my giant paws.
Plus, I'm just too clumsy on a touch screen. A physical keyboard seems so much easier to type on.
dammit, the day after I ordered my HTC Incredible!

Well, at least there's the 30-day buyer's remorse period.
I have an EVO4G - and it's not too big. In fact after daily use, I wonder why other phones are so small. Browsing the web on a mini-screen is a pain. I think that 4.3-4.5 are perfect sizes for phones, and the iPad is a good size for tablets (maybe a tad bigger, but not much). With a phone like this, some type of tablet, you should only need one regular PC/Laptop and/or home server to get everything done.
So much for the iPhone 4G (in more ways than one).
really? i dont see how. OHHHH, you're just bashing Apple because you're a troll. i get it.
phew, you had me there...
Well, I've played with iphone, and I now own an EVO 4g, and I have to say, when it comes to interface, apps, and the cellphone's actual processing power, the android EVO 4G from sprint beats the current iphone 3GS hands down. As for the new iphone 4, I can not say, but at&t doesn't have 4G in my area, but sprint does, and its a noticeably faster from what I can tell. But for people who like at&t, the iphone isn't a bad phone. I switch from at&t because I like having the best thats out, and right now its the evo, not the iphone.

looks awesome but I also want to see the Droid2 before I make a choice. As far as the iPhone goes, its a pretty sick phone aside from the obvious steve jobs draw backs, but I have to tell ya the biggest reason not to buy the iPhone is not the phone itself but the crappiest network in the nation that holds and exclusivity contract with apple.
