Report: Apple and MSFT Team Up Against Google
Microsoft and Apple are reportedly teaming up to take a swipe at Google.
Rumors today suggest rivals Apple and Microsoft could be joining forces to try to take search leader, Google down a few pegs. Google is currently the default search engines on Apple's iPhone but apparently, all that could change.
BusinessWeek cites two people familiar with the matter who say Apple is in talks with Microsoft to replace Google as the default search engine on the iPhone. The deal could see many iPhone owners who are either too lazy to change the default to Google or simply don't know how to, use Microsoft Bing.
BW sources say the talks come as Google and Apple compete more and more in different markets. "Apple and Google know the other is their primary enemy," said one source. "Microsoft is now a pawn in that battle." The source went on to say that Apple is also working on ways to manage ad placement on its mobile devices, a move that would encroach on Google's ad-serving business.
The deal could also stretch to include making Bing an alternative for Mac owners using Safari.

Well, cooperation between microsoft and apple can lead to some interesting things. I think it's a good thing.
Bing is pretty good. Give it a few years and it should be great.
Although no matter what, none will catch google, I think this could still be a good competitor
Hmmm...... with this new "love" wonder what the fan-boys of the two got to say....
And on a different thought, Apple(over priced hardware)+MSFT(over priced software) shud definitely give very "interesting" results in deed...NOT
afraid of Android?
I'm going to grab some popcorn, this should be interesting. At least Google is giving them both a very good run for their money.
AS much as I like Google, bing is actually a great cross-check when you need info.Problem is people don't wanna give it a chance. I think if everyone that loves porn gives bing a chance, we can have an overnight shift in market share.
Am I the only one that is reminded of a TV show jumping the shark?
Unholy union anyone?
The enemy of my enemy is my friend?
Yeah right, Bing will never see my Mac or Linux rig.
This one will have Apple and Microsoft fanboys blowing steam out their ears like a screaming kettle. How do you resolve such hatred against your perceived enemy when the companies in question buddy up.Either the hate is going to end and we all go into the future on the crst of a wave of technological love, or they will be so bitter and twisted they will give up using computers altogether and go back to reading "guns & ammo".But just imagine for a minute, close your eyes and have a dreamy rose-tinted view of the future if Microsoft and Apple collaberate for the betterment of the industry.1) Games that work on Apple. Not ported. Not 6 months after PCs - Native.2) Software compatability. Universal.3) Apple computers being cheaper.4) PCs looking beautiful.Sure its a pipe dream, but whats so bad about that?
Your an idiot. And that is really all I have to say.
"Microsoft is now a pawn in that battle."
Ouch.
Apple and Microsoft have had a coopetition relationship for a long time. The same with IBM, with both parties. This type of relationship is nothing new for either of them. It's not the start of a new era, but merely business as usual applied to a particular situation.
Don't make more of it than it is.
this isn't the first time apple has needed help from microsoft
Instead of trying to physically fight Google and their search engine, they need to give people a good reason to switch on their own. Forcing your customers to use something they are not accustomed to is not the way to win over a fan base. If the product is strong on its own, then people will at least look at it and maybe switch. Make your customer believe that your product is superior and better than your popular competitor instead of just forcing the switch.
Is that why I don't see any more Mac vs. PC ads? I didn't think I'll like Bing until google was having problems. I loaded Bing up tried it for two weeks, and made it my default. It seems a little more snappier and more organized than Google right now. I still use Google, but not as much anymore.
Apple and Microsoft, working together? There's something I wasn't expecting.
I don't think they mind
I can't help but imagine, Microsoft is the mouse, Macintosh is the cat.
The cat will catch the mouse, but will never eat it, The cat just wants to play.
However, the mouse is afraid of the cat because it knows how sharp a cats teeth can be.
If Microsoft wanted to destroy Macintosh, they would have.
And by the way, my Crysis rig is way sexier than anyy Mac (granted their server case is pretty sweet, assuming an acrylic side and painted black).
I'm going to grab some popcorn, this should be interesting. At least Google is giving them both a very good run for their money.

lol... Apple...
I hate both Google and Apple.... both are pompous companies. Actually I hate AT&T too, and Time Warner for the same reasons. Wait, add nVidia to that list too (a newcomer). Maybe I'm just having a bad day???
"The enemy of my enemy is my friend", but "always keep your friends close and your enemies even closer."
Apple has a good philosophy.
Enjoy it while it lasts. If Windows Mobile 7 ever gains enough market share than Apple will drop Microsoft too.

MS "fanboys" couldn't care less.
we're all for whatever gives us a better over all system at a lower price
it doesn't matter if MS teams up with apple, google, redhat or sun. Just so long as we get some benefits.
Apple fanboys, on the other hand, will cry and moan like the little cultists they are.
To them, apple is a religion and Jobs is their promised messiah. They can't stand that their messiah actually needs help from the MS devil.
Some competition against Google would be a good thing. I think having only one major search engine hasn't been a terribly great thing for innovation or for pricing. If this results in Google getting scholar out of beta and some other search refinements done I'm all for it.
I think MS has benefited from some strong Apple competition, it's pushed them to make some needed repairs and improvements to their software. I hope this has a similar effect on Google.
