5. On The Graph And To The Ear

Using traditional techniques, the VS2221 is the "small" 2.1 system that provided the best overall response, with no part of the audio spectrum emphasized or left out. In particular, we noticed no hole in the low midrange, as is frequently the case with systems using microdrivers.

Perfectly even response, with no big hole in the low midrange

The bass from the small subwoofer is comparable - it doesn't favor any particular frequency, but covers well everything you can reasonably cover with a unit of this type. Don't expect sub-bass, but the bass will be there when you need it.

Extended, regular response for a small subwoofer!

Despite its reduced size, the VS2221 attained an SPL of 99.5 dB, which is quite sufficient for close-up listening. While not showy, with its small size and restrained esthetics, the VS2221 offered better-than-average music reproduction for its category, with fine overall neutrality and good balance. The bass extended well down and was always detailed. It's hard to find fault with it, given its size and price; the volume level it can produce is sufficient for individual listening, and even a little beyond that.

For its esthetics, performance, and sound quality, we don't hesitate to rank the VS2221 among the best options in its category.
