As someone who sleep predominantly on her side, I thought that firm mattresses weren't for me. The mattress that changed my mind is the Siena Signature Memory Foam Mattress, now $244 for a queen at Amazon. That's the lowest price we've ever tracked this mattress and is exceptional value for money.

The Siena Signature (formerly called the Siena Memory Foam Mattress) underwent a rigorous round of re-testing this autumn, and its strong performance helped secure its place in our guide to the best mattress for all sleepers and budgets.

Siena Signature Memory Foam Mattress: twin was $199 now $150 at Amazon
The Siena Signature Memory Foam Mattress is our top budget mattress pick, thanks to its outstanding overall comfort and support. For a budget all-foam mattress, we found it to be surprisingly breathable, which is great news for hot sleepers. It isolates motion well, boasts excellent edge support and is so supportive around the lower lumbar region that we've included it in our guide to the best mattresses for back pain. You'll pay $359 for a queen if you shop direct from Siena. However, Amazon is undercutting that price, with a queen dropping to $244 — that's the lowest price it's ever been. It comes with a 180-night sleep trial and 10-year warranty.

Is the Siena Signature Memory Foam Mattress right for you?

The Siena Signature is a 10" firm mattress that we gave a firmness rating of 8/10 in our Siena Signature Memory Foam Mattress review, although some lighter weight sleepers may find it feels firmer. During recent re-testing, this budget-friendly bed performed well across all key areas of performance.

For starters, it isolates movement incredibly well, as you would expect from one of the best memory foam mattresses you can buy. That means that you're unlikely to be disturbed if someone who share a bed with gets in or out, or adjusts their sleeping position.

This image shows our sleep tester Nicola Appleton lying on the Siena Memory Foam Mattress during the pressure relief test. We can see her back as she lies on her right hand side on the mattress, using a pillow for support. A laser, balanced on a tripod, shines a laser line on her spine. Her spine is straight, like the line, indicating good spinal support.

Another big tick is its temperature regulation. Despite being an all-foam bed, our tests found that it sleeps cooler than other mattresses within this price category. It's so effective at keeping hot sleepers cool that we've included into our guide to the best cooling mattresses on the market.

We found that the Siena offered excellent support for back and stomach sleepers (I didn't feel any pressure around my lumbar or top of my back — it was blissful). However, lighter and average weight side sleepers will likely find it too firm. If that's you, there's a different deal I recommend...

Zinus Green Tea Memory Foam Mattress: twin was $195.99 now $173.66 at Amazon
An attractively low price and soothing sink in support makes the Zinus Green Tea Memory Foam Mattress the best affordable mattress for side sleepers on the market. However, an Amazon Black Friday mattress deal takes an extra $45 off, bringing the price of a queen down to $188 (was $233.99). Be warned, though, the edges are a little bit weak and it is prone to holding onto heat. But if you can overlook that, this is an excellent deal.
