Let's face facts — these days, even my nan has a Facebook account. She likes to binge-watch Netflix, comments on Instagram pictures, sends the odd iMessage to the family group chat, and most of all, she likes to read her favourite grandchild's Tom’s Guide articles without interruption. So if you're anything like her, being online is as much a part of your day as it is any Gen Alpha’s – and, just like everyone else, you’re always looking to get the best value on your home internet plan.

Flip is an award-winning small Aussie telco that specialises in wallet-friendly NBN plans and bundles and, notably, it includes a range of plans just for seniors – and it’s even gone the extra mile to try and understand what older users really need. According to a recent Flip survey, seniors are increasingly going digital and embracing new technologies when it comes to everyday activities like making phone calls, getting their entertainment and even making doctors' appointments. And when it comes to broadband, Flip's research shows that 94% of seniors prioritise affordability and reliability when choosing a home internet connection.

Flip has long held the top spot in our guide to the best NBN plans for seniors, as its value is basically unmatched — and now, it's gotten even better. For Black Friday, its NBN 25 plan has been discounted to just AU$44p/m for the first 8 months, after which the ongoing price increases to a still-competitive AU$57.90p/m.

Flip | Seniors NBN 25 | Unlimited data | No lock-in contract | AU$44p/m (for 8 months, then AU$57.90p/m)

As the cheapest 25Mbps plan currently available in Australia, Flip's Seniors NBN 25 offers exceptional value for money. At just AU$44p/m, you'll save AU$13.90p/m for the first eight months before the price increases. That's AU$111.20 in total! This plan also includes an exclusive ongoing seniors discount of AU$57.90p/m after the initial offer ends, making it AU$2 cheaper than Flip's standard NBN 25 price.

Do keep in mind that to take full advantage of Flip's senior discount, you will need to present an eligible identity card.

Minimum cost: AU$44 | Total cost for first 12 months: AU$583.60 | Yearly cost after discount: AU$694.80

Speeds, support and service

Now, when it comes to speeds, there's no need to sign up for the beefiest Flip plan on offer, as it's highly unlikely you'll need all the megabits. With that in mind, I've highlighted the Seniors NBN 25 plan as a great midrange option for most over-65ers.

The NBN 25 tier is well-suited for one- or two-person households with a small number of internet-connected devices. Even during the busy evening hours of 7pm to 11pm, 25Mbps will still provide enough bandwidth for 4K video streaming, or video calls with the grandkids, and of course, some casual social media use.

Of course, if you need more speed to accommodate guests or 4K streaming to multiple devices, you could consider moving up to Flip's NBN 500 Seniors plan, which is currently just AU$69p/m for 4 months, then AU$79.90p/m ongoing. But, do keep in mind that you'll need a compatible connection type at home (either FTTP or HFC) to access speeds more than 100Mbps.

It's also worth mentioning that should you need a new modem, Flip now offers the option bundle one with your plan. Flip's compatible D-Link modem will cost AU$199 upfront, plus AU$20 shipping. Should you run into any trouble while setting up the device or with the service itself, you can reach out to Flip's customer support, which is available from 8am to 8pm AEST Monday to Friday, or 9am to 5pm AEST on the weekends.

If you’d like to retain a landline for calls, you can also optionally add a home phone package, with three options to choose from. The Basic AU$3.30p/m package requires you to pay-as-you-go, depending on whether it's a local or national call. The top-end AU$15.95p/m Bonus plan grants you unlimited calls across local, national and mobile. Do note, though, that international calls are charged no matter what phone bundle you choose. If you need a mobile plan, you can add a SIM-only one starting from AU$15p/m for 10GB (for 3 months, then AU$19.90p/m ongoing).

So if you (or a senior family member) could benefit from a better NBN plan, now's a great opportunity to take advantage of Flip's fine deals.
