Xbox LIVE Gets Political: Microsoft And Rock The Vote Form New Partnership
On Wednesday, Rock the Vote and Microsoft Corporation announced a new partnership, which will allow Xbox 360 owners who are connected to Xbox LIVE to register to vote, participate in presidential polls and present their opinions to candidates.
Rock the Vote, an organization dedicated to engaging youth in political activities, has not previously collaborated with an entertainment partner to reach voters under 30, however, with worldwide Xbox LIVE membership numbers hitting 12 million, XBL is the largest online console network and Rock the Vote intends to utilize its association with this mass audience to involve young people in the political process.
"To realize our goal of registering 2 million young Americans by this fall, we need to go where young Americans are, and there’s no doubt in our minds that many are on Xbox 360 and Xbox LIVE," said executive director of Rock the Vote, Heather Smith.
Through the use of an exclusive forum, young people will be able to voice their opinions to presidential candidates and participate in polls which could potentially be used to predict the outcome of the election. Xbox LIVE users will also be able to register to vote online.
The new system will be up and running on Xbox LIVE starting Monday, August 25th, which is the first day of the Democratic National Convention. Microsoft representatives will be on-site at both the Democratic and Republican to promote the new partnership with Rock the Vote.

Gee, I wonder what their true agenda is? All hail the new savior Obama.
The really sad thing is that this isn't a bad idea.
its a fantastic idea... too bad soo many people just vote on what mommy and daddy vote (Rep or democrat).
To bad so many people vote with no understanding of the difference between socialism and capitalism.
This Republican (parents are Republican as well) will be voting on Obama. I personally believe that Obama can bring about change to our nation.
I wonder if this has anything to do with the failure of electronic voting machines in the USA. Many voting districts have decertified them for unreliability and security prolbems. A lot of them were using Windows CE.

Just curious, what change exactly did you have in mind?
Great idea in my opinion, its quite sad when you see the actual voter turn out nowadays.
Its supposed to represent the population's overall preference, it seems the last few elections, most of the population would rather sit at home and complain about the results, rather than actually actively casting a vote. Maybe this will get people a bit more involved.
