Cambridge (MA) - A Nigerian company has gone through with its threats to sue the One Laptop Per Child (OLPC) foundation. Lagos Analysis Corporation or LANCOR has filed suit in Nigerian courts over the OLPC’s use of multi-lingual keyboards. LANCOR is seeking $20 million in damages and wants the inexpensive laptop banned from Nigeria.

According to Groklaw, Ade Adedeji, LANCOR’s attorney, send a demand letter to the OLPC foundation back in August 2007. Adedeji claims that his company had been researching multilingual keyboards for 9 years. OLPC’s attorney responded a few weeks later with, "I feel obliged to note that, given the fact that OLPC has to date sold no multilingual keyboards and that, according to LANCOR’s website, its multilingual keyboard sells for $19.95, your demand of $20 million is not well founded."

LANCOR has offices in both Nigeria and the United States. The company has also promised to sue OLPC in American courts.

UPDATE - LANCOR has won an "interim injunction" against OLPC. The judgement was done in an "ex parte" motion which means representatives from OLPC were not present to defend themselves.
