PCMark05 Performance Benchmarks Conclusions
Because the Dell Latitude X1's Intel Graphics Media Accelerator controller supports more complex graphics functions, PCMark05 was able to do graphics tests and thus compute an overall System Benchmark score for the laptop. This score (1332) is lower than those achieved by the Toshiba Portege R200 (1458) and the Fujitsu Lifebook B6110D (1465), both of which have Intel GMA 900 graphics controllers. (See the Fujitsu P1510D review for the reason PCMark05 did not run graphics tests on that computer despite its having an Intel GMA 900 controller.) As can be seen in the other PCMark05 test results, the X1's lower System Benchmark score is due to its lower scores than the other two laptops on almost all of the other PCMark05 tests.
With its 1.1 GHz CPU the Latitude X1 shares the lower rungs of the PCMark05 CPU benchmark results ladder with the Averatec, which also has a 1.1 GHz processor. The X1's slower processor and faster 400 MHz memory put it in third from the last position in memory performance with a score of 1833. Predictably, the Dell shares low graphics performance scores with both the Portege R200 and Lifebook B6110D. Finally, the X1's hard disk performance is typical of other laptops with 15ms access times. The Averatec and Fujitsu B6110D both have hard drives with 12ms access times, which is why they sit at the top of the PCMark05 hard disk performance chart.
