Modernist Fireplace Burns Ethanol, Looks Good

Keep warm the carbon-neutral way.

Here's a fireplace that will wow interior designers and environmentally-conscious homeowners alike. The Tube is a simply-named and constructed fireplace that's laser-cut from a metal tube. Just fill up the contraption with enough bio-ethanol fuel, and the burner can generate heat for comfort or romance's sake. It doesn't require a steady supply of wood, nor will it generate smoky fumes.

While The Tube is marketed as a great substitute for the classic fireplace, it's compact design also means users can mount it on walls. The only drawback? Seems the designers over at Acquaefuoco have yet to find a partner to bring their design to the general market—even though The Tube recently won the Red Dot Design award. Let's hope the fireplace's Italian creators are seriously considering a future beyond the design awards circuit.
