Sony's Android-powered X10 $50 From Amazon
Sony Ericsson has finally announced a U.S. release date for the Xperia X10, and if you've been lusting after this phone since before Christmas, you'll be happy to hear you can get it this week.
Already available outside the U.S., the Xperia X10 packs a 4-inch touchscreen display; a 1GHz Snapdragon CPU; 8GB of on-board memory and a 2GB in-box memory card, with expandable memory up to 32GB; an 8.1-megapixel camera with LED flash, smile detection, and auto-focus; and Android 1.6.
Though it's disappointing to see the flagship Android device from Sony ship with Android 1.6, keep in mind that this phone has been available in other countries (Canada, UK, Ireland) for months and months. It's also slightly cheaper than other devices running newer versions of Android. The phone will cost $149.99 on contract with AT&T, $129.99 from Sony Style stores and, if you're willing to wait a week, $49.99 on Amazon.com.
Any takers?

$50 on amazon!?
For any phone without a contract, that is cheap!!!
I'm in!
Only $50? There's got to be a catch somewhere...
The price listed here has to be a miss print, I don't see it cheaper than 350.
those specs match my droid incredible!.....
I don't know but I'm pretty sure that $50 price tag is with a contract. Considering that it costs ~$550 everywhere else. I could be wrong but I doubt it.
Are you sure it's not $550?
Typo. it's 550

The only way this is worthy of being news on tom's is if it is $50 without a contract. It won't be. So this isn't worth being on tom's.
Tired of other Countries always getting the better phones before us in the US. Dell Streak anyone? What a crock I say!
"Sony's Android-powered X10 $50 From Amazon" - Just to clear things up: Sony no longer makes cellphones. X10 is a product of SonyEricsson which operates independently (decision wise) from both Sony and Ericsson. Calling it "Sony's X10" is totally wrong.
So they've managed a typo in both the title AND the article?
Good job again, Toms.
Damn, $50 would've been nice, but there's no way it could've been that cheap without contract.

You must be new here. Tom's is note a site that cares about journalistic credibility on the news front nor is it a site that cares to hire writers that know how to write. I've literally seen 7th graders with better proof-reading skills than most of the Tom's news writing staff. I'm wholly convinced that they don't proof-read at all. As in none. It really is quite appalling which is why I come here less and less.
Every journalist will make a mistake every once in a while but the Tom's news staff has it bass ackwards. Every once in a while they don't make a mistake. It's rare. And sad.
i will take 11 of them please.
Good reading comprehension guys: "if you're willing to wait a week, $49.99 on Amazon.com". The article is from today/yesterday... the website advertises sales that are valid today... today is not a week from the 9th.
You can't automatically assume the author is wrong based on evidence that is capable of being invalidated tomarrow.
with android 1.6 it will do audible and kindle reader better than my moto backflip
You can get an HTC Aria phone for free through AT&T. It's better to have a smaller screen and Android 2.1 than a larger screen with some severely outdated version of Android. The Aria will likely see Froyo soon too. This Sony phone will probably get Android 2.1 long after Gingerbread comes out. What a waste of money.
I'm still holding out for a non Apple tablet with 3G data and voice...
RE: Sony's Android-powered X10 $50 From Amazon
"Haha! Made ya look!"
Got mine from Rogers last week. Mine shipped with a 16gb microsd. 1.6 is a bit of a letdown but hopefully we will see an update soon. $50 wouldn't even cover the cost of the microsd card.

That's because our wireless networks SUCK compared to that of Europe. In europe, the smartphones would be put to good use and get good press. In the USA, the smartphones might fall victim to being associated with a bad network. *cough* iPhone *cough*
It is on wireless.amazon.com with contract, not available yet, but as original post says - wait for a week.
I am a sucker for Sony Ericsson and with Android, it is a real treat. Count me in!

The main reason that the US is behind the rest of the world in wireless infrastructure is because our wired infrastructure didn't/doesn't suck. We've had landlines available in most of the country for 100+ years now. The rest of the world has always been behind in that respect, and huge wars ravaging a significant portion of the globe over the decades has not helped in that regard.
When basically starting from scratch wireless was a better deal and it was built up fast out of necessity as there was no other option. The biggest reason the US did not follow the same model was because we have wired infrastructure that works well.
Keep an eye on http://wireless.amazon.com/. If the $50 thing is true, then it's probably most like their current deal for the Samsung Captivate which is $49.99 for a new 2-year contract with AT&T.
However, if you are upgrading from a current AT&T plan, then the price of the phone jumps to $100.00.
The Xperia X10 will most likely be the same or similar.
It's listed now, with activation of a new, 2-year contract. Or 79.99 if you're upgrading an individual contract, or $149.99 if upgrading a phone on a family plan.
Even better deal now from Amazon for those who waited a week. For new AT&T and individual plan upgrades, the phone is now $49.99. For AT&T family plan upgrades, the price dropped to $99.99.
Good stuff!
