Sony: Yes, We Are Ditching the PSP Go
It’s true!
Yesterday, a blog post from Japan claimed that Sony had ceased production on the not-so-popular PSP Go. The author, who worked as a Sony shop employee, said the electronics giant had told his sales manager that the device was no longer being made.
A statement from Sony regarding the rumors did not confirm or deny the news, but maintained that its current generation of PSPs “continue to be in demand.” However, it seems the company has since changed its mind as it’s confirmed that it will not be making any more PSP Gos.
Kotaku reports that Sony has confirmed the decision to Japanese site AV Watch, reporting that it would no longer be manufacturing the PSP Go "in order to concentrate on the NGP". The NGP, also known as the PSP2, is due to launch before the end of the year.
The PSP Go, which has no UMD, was launched in October of 2009. Now costing around $200 at major retailers, it’s not clear when remaining stock will run dry.

and to think i was almost going to buy one of these things. lol
well can't blame them, Smart phone's games these day can surely compete with the PSP
they only have themselves to blame for this. they were slow at getting game on PSN to download not to mention there back catalog of games
It was a dud to begin with.
@qhoa1385 they are not scrapping all psp's just the PSP Go Model because it sucked compared to the regular psp. They are still making the regular psp and still going to be making the PSP2
simply allow homebrew on said device, open it the hell up and it will sell like hotcakes
I'm shocked to hear this!!!! (Incredible sarcasm) What a crappy device in the first place, the thing was DOA.
simply allow homebrew on said device, open it the hell up and it will sell like hotcakes
Hell, not even that, they should at least made it so every game that was available for the psp was available on the psp go. There were plenty of titles you could only play on the psp because they simply weren't on psn. There's also the issue of 16GB being enough to hold only a few games because some of the psp games can be over a gig. It was a piece of junk compared to the psp.
Honestly, the PSP is a pretty sweet little piece of hardware. Just like lots of consoles, they had great potential, but didn't work out. I'm thinking of the SEGA systems back in the day. Look at the gameboy. Everyone wanted one because they had awesome, portable games.
I like my PSP, but I never use it because I've played all the games I've wanted to play and I never play for more than an hour.
I also wish it were easier to do more homebrew stuff with the PSP. That would open it up to all sorts of things.
The PSP started with a wrong mindset to begin with. It tried to be a portable console rather than a true handheld.
There aren't that many people that want full blown gaming even when on the move. The traditional handset users are children and people commuting/travelling. The former want simple, entertaining games like Pokemon and the latter games that are simple and fun for a bit.
