Mac Microchip Table Lights Up Your Geek Life

- By - Source : Tom's Guide US

It's a cool table using parts from G4 Macs and ATI graphics cards.

Yesterday we covered the Platinum Coffee Table with a built-in PC. Today we have another table with PC innards, however this one isn't quite as useful in a multimedia sense. Visually the design of Justin Adler's Microchip Table is utterly cool, using a clear plastic shell and parts from 2 dead Apple G4 Macs and an AIT graphics card.

For PC enthusiasts, the Microchip Table would be an excellent addition to the @home office, offering a splash of blue, red, and yellow illumination thanks to the embedded lightshow. There's no indication that the fans actually rotate; based on images, they appear to be aesthetic only, and non-functional. However given that the table lights require some sort of power, it's possible the electronics actually work as well.

Unfortunately, there is no information on pricing and availability. Because this is simply a table, we can't really do into detail about all the extra cool features. At best, we can drool over the way the lights splash against the hardware and up on the ceiling. Hopefully we'll see more from Adler that incorporates working technology that could be used for accessing the internet.

If anything, Adler's designs should inspire PC enthusiasts to use old hardware in a creative way as seen here.

LOL, sorry Kevin! I guess it's a cool idea for a table. Although, making it kind of functional would be better? Maybe incorporate a streaming audio unit into it or something? Like... a jukebox at a table like diners have?

I wish you guys would use bigger images for your articles. So we can actually see how cool these things are. I know you linked it to another site were Bigger images exist but sometimes you guys don't and its a little annoying.

So that's what old macs are good for. Here I've been using old PCs as servers I could have been making LED infested tables!

Ok this is a cool concept. Esp. if you can get transparent OLED material on there and use it as one of those surface computers. Trick would be to make it as dark as possible inside when using it...

Some times I wonder if toms has an editor or anyone that has a second read of an article before they are published. I can understand why the author would miss a mistake like that, I miss mistakes like that because I read what I meant rather then what I actually put down.

up on the ceiling? You can barely see half the wall and the picture is terrible quality as it is. It just seems like those tables made out of car junk parts. I'm not impressed any 4th grader couldve made this.
