They Could be Making a Google Movie
Because movies about small startups that evolved into huge corporations are the latest, greatest thing, we can start counting down the days to the Google film.
You've heard all about the Facebook movie and though we had a hard time getting excited about it when it was first announced, after we heard about the talent behind it, we kind of couldn't help but get excited. David Fincher, the man who brought us Se7en, Fight Club and Zodiac, is directing, and the screenplay was written by Aaron Sorkin, the writer behind the West Wing, A Few Good Men and Sports Night. Plus, NIN frontman Trent Reznor is doing the sountrack. Maybe it will actually be a decent movie, we thought. We're hoping the same can be said of the Google movie that's in the works.
The Deadline is reporting that Groundswell Productions has teamed up with producer John Morris to acquire movie rights to New Yorker columnist Ken Auletta's book Googled: The End of the World As We Know it.
Because Google's start was a little different to the drama-filled beginnings that Facebook had, the movie likely won't be quite as dark as Fincher's flick looks. Michael London of Groundswell Productions said this movie would be focused on how Brin and Page tried to hang onto their 'do no evil' idealism as Google became a global phenomenon.
"It's about these two young guys who created a company that changed the world, and how the world in turn changed them," London told the Deadline
"The heart of the movie is their wonderful edict, don't be evil. At a certain point in the evolution of a company so big and powerful, there are a million challenges to that mandate.
"Can you stay true to principles like that as you become as rich and powerful as that company has become? The intention is to be sympathetic to Sergey and Larry, and hopefully the film will be as interesting as the company they created."

I could see a documentary on these companies on like discovery or some channel, but having a movie about facebook, google, and other companies just sounds a little silly...
Isn't there a movie coming out with Luke Wilson "based on a true story" about some of the first internet pornography pioneers? That might be worth watching, because its mostly fictionalized I assume. A movie about Brin and Page would be very nerdy and boring.
I can totally see a Facebook trilogy....and then, in 20 years, a prequel trilogy.
Sounds boring, at least Facebook is evil

Nerdy and boring person reporting for duty!
I hope it's a documentary, might be worth watching.
There's already a facebook movie?
Yes, and just to prove that facebook can do anything they want with your page, they will automatically change your places status to "Watching the greatest movie ever @ (insert you location)" when you start to watch it, and force all of your friends to thumbs up the post.
Google is the new IBM. Don't be Evil? Yea right...
I might go just to see malware a "stiff" pills being on either side of the screen.
And I thought the movie was about Google becoming conscious from all the questioning and answering and then take control of the world.. sigh.. xD
inb4 cyberdyne
sounds intriguing enough
we here all about the Street View service, ect. that happens from the media. Couldn't hurt to have a different perspective.
google earth isnt just a name its the future
This sounds about as boring as the movie about how Apple and Microsoft came to be.
I bet this film will be riveting.
Pirates of silicon valley was a pretty good movie, so i dont see why this cant be.
Google: The Beginning

Google 2: The Takeover
Google 3: World Domination
....and so ends the trilogy
They should wait a few years. Google is still on the up. How it lost its way and become evil (starting with the net neutrality thing), would be much more interesting.
Meh
very interesting, looking forward for both movies
Hollywood already made a movie about Google. In fact, they made a series of movies about Google. They had to change the names for legal reasons, but the movies involved malicious AI and nuclear destruction and a little company called Skynet. Remember those?

Oops, not Skynet, I meant Cyberdyne. Jeez, Tom's, add a quick-edit button, please! And aren't we supposed to be able to edit via the forum link, cuz I couldn't get that to work.

It doesn't work on Tom's Guide

Googlenet? but can the corporation that does no evil break into the secret armed forces computers and launch nukes at the world? who would they aim for? yahoo? not that yahoo needs a bomb dropped on it about now.
Seeing how we got the "Google" phone and web browser I guess it wont be to long before we got "Google" every thing else including a "Google" grocery store and movie theater/cable service. It would be a bad sign if they started to sell milk from their goats they got mowing their lawns. :s
I would buy google milk.

You are right about that. Discovery already did a documentary on Googles startup.
Will someone kill these friggin' bots?!?
next apple?
