How to install and configure NordVPN at the router level

Check NordVPN’s guide to find the router that’s in your home. This will be a great starting point to configure your router with the VPN. If your router isn’t compatible, go to our ‘What if my router isn’t supported?’ section below.
Go to your NordVPN dashboard and head to the manual setup section. Generate service username and password credentials here, as you’ll need them for your router’s settings.
On a device that’s connected to your router, go to a web browser and enter its IP address. It’s usually 192.168.0.1 or something similar - it’s usually on the router itself if you need to check. Sign in with the admin credentials, which should also be on the router.
Go to the VPN section once you’re logged in. Copy in the credentials from step 2, as well as the server address from one you’ve chosen from NordVPN’s list, and click save. The router may need to restart - if so, let it be and wait until you can use the internet again.
If your devices are connecting to the router again without issue, head to a web browser again and visit an IP-check site. If the location matches the NordVPN server you picked, every connected device should now be protected by the VPN.

What if my router isn't supported by NordVPN?

First, check NordVPN's own unsupported router page to confirm - most ISP-provided routers (BT, Sky, Virgin) and brands like Netgear, Linksys, D-Link and eero won't work with their stock firmware. If yours is on the list, you've got three options:

Flash custom firmware. If your router's hardware is supported, you can replace its stock firmware with a VPN-capable one - DD-WRT, OpenWRT, Tomato, or Merlin. This is the cheapest option, but it's technical; it varies by model, and getting it wrong can brick the router, so check your exact model against the firmware's supported-devices list first.
