4. Magellan’s New Roadmate 1400 GPS
Magellan brought its new Roadmate and Maestro Personal Navigation Devices to CeBIT. The Roadmate 1400 series, with prices starting from $279, features a 4.3" widescreen display and uses the QuickSpell and SmartDetour features to offer an easy navigation experience to users. The basic version, the 1400, comes preloaded with Navteq road maps of a single region, and also has a database of safety cameras. The 1412, at $349, adds text-to-speech, which announces the street name and direction of the next turn. It comes preloaded with the full USA map. The $399 1430 model adds a traffic information receiver and a lifetime subscription to the traffic service. The antenna to receive traffic info is integrated into the unit’s power cable. The Magellan Maestro 4250 is the top-of-the-line product for the USA brand, and had already been presented at the CES show. The display is a 4:3 widescreen surrounded by a thin shiny black frame. The device includes a traffic receiver, with the antenna integrated into the unit’s power cable. Menu, addresses and navigation options may be activated with voice commands; for example, drivers can speak commands such as "go home", "nearest coffee" or "roadside assistance". The unit also features Bluetooth and text-to-speech technology, and comes at a price of $399.
