6. Using The TomTom Go 700 To Set A Route

OK, all of that hardware stuff is out of the way. Now we can talk about using the Go 700. One of the things I really appreciated about the device was its out-of-the-box readiness. I didn't have to do a thing but remove the GPS from its box and charge the battery. The maps were already loaded, as were things like points of interest. Once the battery was charged I was ready to set a route.

One of the really strong points of the TomTom Go 700 is its more or less intuitive routing capabilities. I can't show you all of the options mentioned in the features table above. But, let me show you how you set a route from one location to another. The images below and their captions say it all.

This is the first screen you see after the Go 700 starts up. It's a blue because no satellites have been located. Tap it to go to the first options selection screen.

Select "Navigate to"

Select "Address"

Enter part of the name of the city you want to go to; then touch the screen to select the city you want from a list.

Enter the name of the street you want to go to and touch the screen to select the one you want.

Enter the address you want to go to. Touch "Done" to set your go to location. To set a cross street instead of an address, touch "crossing" and enter a street name.

When you're finished, you see a small map that shows your route.
