200,000 Android Phones Are Being Sold Each Day
Ever wondered how many Android phones are being sold each day?
In the beginning, Android seemed to be just for the tech savvy. However, the days where the G1 dominated the Android market are long gone, and with countless devices to choose from, the user base consists of all kinds of people.
So, Android has gone from strength to strength in the mainstream market, but how many Android phones are being sold each day? According to Google CEO Eric Schmidt, per-day sales figures have just hit 200,000 units.
Speaking at the Techonomy conference in Lake Tahoe yesterday, Schmidt said the search giant is activating 200,000 Android phones every day. This is up from 60,000 per day in April, 100,000 every day in May and 160,000 in June.
When asked about reasons for the surge in Android popularity, Schmidt cited the Droid X and the Samsung Galaxy, which will be available on all carriers.
Though Android is doing phenomenally well, Mr. Schmidt hasn't lost sight of his company's biggest product: Search. According to Tech Crunch, while speaking about the success of Android and discussing whether or not the revenue garnered from the mobile OS was enough to make the project worth it, Schmidt said the idea behind Android was to drive search. The Google chief even went as far as to say they 'love the success of the iPhone' because it also drives search.

I got the Samsung Galaxy S, Vibrant thru T-Mobile....LOVE IT!
classy! unlike Steve.
200 000 men and women every day, you can be like we are, come on baby, don`t fear the android.
How does Google make any money from Android? Its free.

through ads and search on the device just like everything google does it all boils down to search and ad revenue. They even make money off of search on iphones, stupid apple.
I'm stranded by general shortage of HTC Desires and Nexus Ones in Vodafone here in Spain. I may consider switching to Movistar for a Samsung Galaxy S, but Movistar is a little more expensive than Vodafone... (and heard rummors of short battery time and no will to update to 2.2 by Samsung) :S

Sorry, I understand that, just the way that the article phrased it
it sounded like they expected Google to make money from Android some other way.
The HTC Desire is sex. It's the first time I sat down, and with no reservations said 'this is better than the iPhone'.
How un-wrong was I?

Here in Canada, Telus was supposedly getting the Desire months ago, but it still has no official release date. I know 2 people that are going to pick one up when its available.
I would happily be among those 200,000 if I wasn't under contract with AT&T until next May. I am ready to be done with iPhone.
Man I bet the AT&T exclusivity is killing Apple right now. I bet they can't wait to make the iPhone available on all carriers to compete with Android.
Also doesn't Google make money from Android App market purchases? Do they charge for consulting to carriers?
Should I say it again? "Steve Jobs is Apple's biggest enemy."
I wish the UK market would get the newer Android phones, we only have the Desire which is already looking dated.
WOW, 200,000 a day eh, looks like they will sell 74,million phones this year, 6.2 mill a month. These numbers seem to be far fetched to say the least.

no, see... that's what happens when its on DOZENS of phones oh hundreds of networks at a time... not just one. the only thing that's far-fetched is thinking apple stands any chance of remaining dominant.
That's an insane number. I'm guessing worldwide?
Nonetheless, amazing.
let's all pretend android is apple for a second.
TOM'S STOP POSTING ALL THESE STUPID ANDROID ARTICLES UP, NO1 WANTS TO READ ABOUT THEM
Now Apple will say that they're selling twice as many iPhones,iPods and iPads.Just f*ck off Apple!
200,000 a day? wow. Good, I'm glad people are making the switch. I showed people my EVO and 3 of em went and got one the next day.

Clintonio did you have an iphone or ever owned one?
I am thinking about jumping to an Android phone from my Blackberry (i used to have an iphone.
Im considering iphone again, blackberry blows and i know little of Android... but if people who have owned the iphone say android is better i may just go to android instead.
I just want opinions from people who have tried them both/all.. I hate opinions from people who say "its better" but have never owned one or both.
Your on the wrong website for an honest opinion. This site made up of anti Apple people.

Iphone has the upper hand on apps and the resolution, that is all imo. Every other part of my captivate I like better than the IP4. Also, the 800x480 is quite fantastic using the super amoled screen which is great for media playback. It's bright, the blacks are black and uses less battery.
Me and a buddy sat down and compared the captivate vs. IP4 in every way that mattered to "us". His camera took shiny photos that look already photoshopped, mine looked more natural, I do photography as a hobby and preffered the natural look by far. The IP4 LED flash made things washed out and yucky but I guess in pitch black it could be usefull, Captivate has no Flash.
The camera settings on droid are leaps and bounds above Iphone and I don't need to pay for an app that does auto panoramic stitching. His has front/back cameras which is... cool I guess. It's a neat feature but not something that makes me feel I am missing out.
My graphics were faster on Asphalt HD, both phones make calls, texting is great on either. Both browse the web fantastic.
He has had every Iphone version and was extremely impressed by my ATT captivate that was on Amazon for $90 with 2year plan. I liked his phone alot but hate Apple smugness with a passion.
In the end, I like android better but... either phone kicks ass if coming from a blackberry. That is just one android, if you want the LED flash and dual cameras, there is an android for that.

Cray much?
I just got the Droid X. I am LOVING the real estate on this bad boy! Seems damn fast to me, and they haven't even push the OTA upgrade to Froyo (Android 2.2) yet.
