8. Conclusion

Apart from its wireless communication functions, the e740 has outstanding features, but these are of little advantage as long as the OS can't handle them better. So its main arguments come down to design, still attractive even though it is bigger than the e310, its MPEG-4 decompression, double memory slot, the presentation of the applications in theme-based icon form (a Toshiba proprietary system similar to PalmOS), the handful of optional modules already available and the wireless communication functions. But if you are not interested in wireless and the optional modules, forget about the e740 and go for an e310 or the brand new e330.

To close, as with the e310, we must express a note of some resentment mentioned in the previous pages. How dare Toshiba market the e740 at under $600 in the States and at 1000 euros in Europe? However much you add for taxes and conversion, the difference, whatever the qualities of the product, is as hard as ever to understand.
