Lexmark's Genesis Scans in a Flash

Lexmark's newest all-in-one provides still competition to HP's Envy 100

Last month, HP unveiled its newest all-in-one printer: The Envy 100, a decidedly unprinter-like looking device. Not to be outdone, Lexmark has thrown in their lot with the Genesis, their own blend of function and style. It's not all looks, either. Housed within its sleek exterior are a ton of features, and at least one innovative design choice.

The Genesis prints, faxes, and scans, as can be expected from an all-in-one. What makes it unique is that Lexmark scrapped the traditional scanning mechanism in favor of a 10-megapixel camera. That's right, it actually photographs your documents, and within 3 seconds you've gone from hard copy to digital. You can even preview scans thanks to the built-in LCD touchscreen.

The Genesis also comes with built-in Wifi and Web connectivity, making printer sharing and uploading photos a breeze. Apps for your iPod or iPhone are also included, so you can cut out the middle man and print directly from your mobile device.
