Here's another smidgen of information about the upcoming Warcraft movie for all you World of Warcraft fans.

Spider-Man's Sam Raimi has been confirmed as the director for the World of Warcraft movie, with Dark Knight producer Charles Roven and senior VP of creative development at Blizzard, Chris Metzen co-producing. Variety reports that Legendary Pictures and Blizzard Entertainment are mounting the film, with Warner Bros. co-financing and distributing. Raimi will reportedly be working on Warcraft and Spider-Man 4 at the same time.

Who's excited? I'm mildy more interested now than I was before. Not being a World of Warcraft fan, I wasn't all that bothered with the movie when word first got out but now that they've confirmed some serious talent for the direction and production, I'm a little curious.

2 Movies at the same time.......That's greed for ya.
Here's a better idea ......1 movie at a time and make it all it can be.

IMO movies based on and/or come about because of the popularity of a game rarely are any good to begin with so I am still not all that excited.

Blizzard has always demanded the highest quality in all of their projects. If you watch some of the cinematic trailers from their games they are amazing. I imagine if they feel the picture is going to be a bust they will simply scratch the project and say it didnt translate well to the screen. I cant imagine they would want to risk the brand they have built over a movie. WoW is a billion dollar video game it doe not have an insignificant following.

Good for Blizzard by not letting Uwe Boll get the script. Sam Raimi is a very good director that unfortunately made the Spiderman movies.

Am I the only one that was disappointed by the director? This is the guy who did Evil Dead, which pushed limits and was freaking hellarious, and then spent much of the rest of his career playing it safe. "I'm like a dinosaur. I couldn't change with the material." he says, after bombing a western.
Maybe, just maybe, if the Warcraft movie was his full focus, and the right risks were taken the movie would be great. But, this announcement suggest that the Warcraft movie will take a 2nd priority, and play things safe.

I guess it will be a long time before someone breaks the trend of making complete garbage videogame movies.

IF the WoW movie takes as long to make as Blizzard takes to make games - Sam Raimi will have worked on about 5 other movies while working on the WoW movie!

I completely agree with the Uwe Boll part *shudders just thinkin about it*

now about the spiderman and unfortunately part - huh? I don't get that - other than Spiderman 3. which oddly enough IMDB lists Sam Raimi as a writer on Spiderman 3 and not the first 2. the first 2 he is only listed as the director. aaahh, maybe that's why I didn't like Spiderman 3 as much (venom/brock whose supposed to be HUGE played by a skinny 70's toe - give me a break)

anyways, seems to me as long as he ONLY directs it should be good. =) (keep him away from the writing Blizzard! and psst - add LAN back to your games that could use it! :P)

meh, the first Spiderman movie was good but 2 and 3 were cheese fests. I've learned not to get excited over videogame movies.
Anyone remember Doom? or how bout that Dungeon Siege movie?

I bet this will be the first movie that, when released to video, will only be available for viewing via On-Demand services.

'Cause of possible DVD piracy, you see.

I hate blizzard these days, they shut down my favorite private servers, starcraft 2 gets no lan support, etc. I actually have a strict rule - to never again give blizzard any of my money.

Spiderman's aren't video game movies.

and Dugeon Siege is Uwe Boll which someone already mentioned. That alone is enough of an answer for you as to why there is not a reason to remember Dugeon Siege.

*cringes*IMDB says Uwe Boll is directing a Far Cry and a Rampage movie. =\ I wonder if that is the Rampage I remember.

also an FYI - IMDB said Sam Raimi is listed as a producer/writer/director for a movie - The Evil Dead (2010) and it lists Sam Raimi in connection with a movie in development - Evil Dead IV - and I don't think that's WoW ;)

2 movies at the same time! Take note fledgling directors... this is how to make 2 crap movies simultaneously!

Might as well have Uwe Boll direct it if you're going to have that level of dedication.

What ever happened to the Halo movie? Even Starcraft would make a more entertaining movie. It's disheartening to see that people can essentially play the exact same thing for 5 years straight and not get bored. How about an MMO that doesn't involve swords, magic, boars, bears, and wolves? ugh...

Commence the "thumbs down" fanboys... I know you'll do it.

I laughed a lot with this comment. You know when I read the title (before even reading the content) I thought the same thing "Woah it is a miracle that this project didn't fall on Uwe Boll's hands"

For those who don't know Uwe Boll's directing profile: (Game-based movies)

BloodRayne 3: Warhammer
Far Cry (2008) (producer)
Alone in the Dark II (2008) (V) (producer)
BloodRayne 2: Deliverance (2007) (V) (executive producer)
Postal (2007) (producer)
In the Name of the King: A Dungeon Siege Tale (2007) (producer)
BloodRayne (2005) (producer)
Alone in the Dark (2005) (executive producer)
House of the Dead (2003) (producer)
Tunnel Rats (2008) (executive producer)

(credits for IMDB for this Copy/Paste maneuver).

Personally, Blizzard has a ton of story to pull from and with Raimi directing the elements for a spectacular fantasy movie are there. Will it deliver I don't know, but I think they have a nice foundation to work with.

I don't play wow but I like fantasy movies, if I go in with that in mind and don't get hung up on "that's no how it really happened ingame", I think I could be pleasantly suprised.

The movie industry needs to die. They fail to persuade me to go to the movies anymore. I'd rather stay at home and watch Spartacus, Ben-Hur, Gone with the Wind then the Sound of Music none stop.

Hope it has a Bruce Campbell cameo ;) (raimi fans know what i'm talking about)

Seriously though, glad it's not being butchered by Uwe Boll, and I hope Blizzard doesn't let it suck.
