Skydrops Concept Collects Water From the Sky

Designers create balloon concept that harnesses wind energy to create water.

Designed by Guilherme Rodrigues and Murilo Gomes, the Skydrops concept is a helium inflated balloon designed to collect water as it floats around in the sky. The device is designed to spin in the wind, creating energy that then cools metallic sheets with peltier cells inside of the balloon. While the sheets are cooled and air passes through the surface, water condenses and falls through a cable and into an included reservoir. With situations in mind such as catastrophe earthquakes or devastated areas, several Skydrop balloons floating in the sky could become a great resource for some much needed water and relief. The Skydrop concept is also designed to fly uninterrupted for up to two months, while capable of creating up to 50 liters of water every day.For more information on the product, check out Murilo Gomes' Coroloft project page here.
