Yesterday, we pranked you readers a few times with phony stories (only because we love you, really) and we definitely weren’t alone.
Google, the Guardian, BMW and countless other companies pulled some stunts too. Palm promised us that instead of a prank, we’d get some juicy information on … well, the company didn’t say what, just that it would be good and it would be announced at the Web 2.0 conference in San Francisco.
We immediately assumed we’d get a release date for the Palm Pre. Having already showed off the device extensively at CES in January, we figured Palm couldn’t be up to anything else. Apparently not. The company yesterday announced the availability of the SDK for a limited number of people.
Palm announced that it would be picking a lucky few who would get an early look at the Pre's Mojo SDK. Big news for you devs itching to make cash by writing applications for the new smartphone. While the company has yet to pick the developers who’ll get to try the OS first but rumor has it, it could be as early as today.
There is a new video on the Palm site under "Meet Pre" that shows apps Fandango (for movie ticket buying) and Pandora (for music streaming) running as part of a demo.
Let us know if you end up in the golden circle and what you think of the SDK, we’re (okay, I’m) really eager for any Pre info. You can sign up for the early access program, so check out Palm's blog post on the matter. Good luck!

For one, here's hoping that they release the SDK as free and public before too long so we can get more apps being written. For two, here's hoping it lets you tap into the full hardware of the platform instead of tying dev's hands with limited features.
