1. You Say You Want Small

If you're looking for a small laptop, step right up. Toshiba's Libretto U100-S213 is the absolutely smallest laptop we've tested here at MobilityGuru. At 8.27" x 1.31" x 6.50" (21.0 x 3.33 x 16.51 cm) the Libretto is just a bit smaller than Fujitsu's Lifebook P1510D, which measures 9.3" x 1.46" x 6.57" (23.6 x 3.71 x 16.7 cm). Both laptops weigh in at about 2.2 pounds (1000g).

Toshiba's Libretto U100-S213 ultra lightweight laptop and a 6" x 2.5" (15.24 x 6.35 cm) US $20 bill.
As you'll see later, when we compare the Libretto and Lifebook to Sony's VGN-TX670P and Dell's Latitude X1, size and weight are not everything. Really smaller laptops mean you have to put up with smaller keyboards and displays as well as joystick-based mice. Ultra small form factors also preclude built-in DVD drives and may limit cooling options. But if you want an almost PDA sized Windows XP laptop, the Libretto could be just right for you.
The Libretto U100 is competitive with a range of larger laptops in processing power, memory speed and disk performance. It did well in our comprehensive set of benchmarking tests when compared to other ultra-light laptops in its class.
