1. Introduction

The Fujifilm F50fd is the successor to the F40fd, and brings numerous changes compared to its older brother. Among the most notable of these are the move from 8 to 12 megapixels, and the addition of an optical stabilizer. This fall, the competition is intense in the market for compact digital cameras. Will its upgraded characteristics be enough to make this new Fujifilm model a contender as the year enters the home stretch?

Impressive On Paper

A Handicap Of 12 Megapixels

The number of megapixels is an unbeatable sales argument where consumers are concerned. Yet it’s true that while the resolution is higher, the coin has another side that can’t be ignored: image quality suffers. That’s because the sensor is still the same size, yet has more pixels packed in; since the pixels there are smaller, each captures less light. That causes image noise on your pictures, even at low sensitivity settings.
