Doom II for Xbox Live Arcade made an appearance today at QuakeCon.

Shacknews is reporting that Doom II for Xbox Live Arcade is currently on display today at QuakeCon, and says that a formal announcement is expected to be made later today. Along with the game's original content, Doom II will offer a whole new episode, online play, and a four-player split-screen multiplayer support.

Ported to the console by Nerve Software, Doom II is the successor to the original Doom port released on Xbox Live Arcade back in September 2006. Costing 400 Microsoft Points, Doom offers all four original episodes as well as deathmatch and co-op through Xbox Live. The new Doom installment will likely offer the same price point ($5), although the additional episode may slightly raise the price.

For the uninitiated, Doom II: Hell on Earth was originally released on the PC back on October 10, 1994. Like its predecessor, Doom II has appeared on various platforms, from the Amiga to the Game Boy Advance. Currently id Mobile is working on a variant entitled Doom II RPG, ripping out the traditional FPS gameplay and inserting a turn-by-turn movement structure.

As of this writing, official details regarding the Doom II's price and release date for Xbox Live Arcade till haven't been released, however stay tuned for a former announcement soon.

That's pathetic considering how many source ports there are with better graphics.

It will probably be $10 to download. That is how much I paid for the original DOOM when it first came out on XBLA, and I will gladly pay for DOOM2. Cant Wait!

I was excited for a moment when I thought it was Quake II, would be amazing. Oh well I did like Doom II and never got to deathmatch so maybe give it a blast.

Who cares!!! They waste their time on porting games we used to love, not to mention this many times? Who cant get it on their cellphone by now, but honestly what real gamer sits on their cellphone and plays it anyway! ARGH!!! Quit wasting time they could easily spend to get another title that much closer to release!
