1. Introduction

Our high end media PC with its front cover off

In creating two different HDMI-enabled Media Center PCs, one at the low end of the price spectrum and the other at the high end, we learned that you can build an adequate machine for from under $700 to nearly $900 and a super machine with all the major bells and whistles inside or attached for $3,000 or more. Within the limits of what each was able to handle, both boxes delivered great entertainment and functionality.

We offer a number of conclusions, but the one we think you'll find most interesting is about the wisdom of building media PCs with HDMI and high-definition media playback capabilities, given today's technology.
