3. How about WiFi?

Both Linksys and D-Link were showing kits that could convert 5V-powered Access Points (or other networking equipment that's powered by a 5VDC supply) to Power Over Ethernet devices. POE uses unused wires in any CAT5 Ethernet cable to supply power to Ethernet devices. POE has become a must-have for "enterprise" grade Access Points because it eliminates the need to have an AC outlet near each Access Point, greatly simplifying site planning and installation. D-Link's DWL-P100 is available now for about 40 bucks and although Linksys didn't have pricing or availability for me for their WAPPOE, I'd expect it to come in at a similar price when it's available. Update! It appears that SMC's SMC2655W Access Point supports POE, because I noticed the EZ Connect Power Injector on their website. With a street price of around $25, it combines a 5VDC power supply with a POE injector, but, unlike the D-Link and Linksys kits above, requires that the Access Point already be wired for POE.

D-Link was also displaying their unannounced DWL-810 Ethernet to Wireless Bridge, but had no pricing or availablity for me. This will join SMC2664W mini 802.11b USB adapter. It's very small, and although it doesn't have an external antenna that you can move around, it does have a clip that should allow you to attach it to your laptop's screen (if you're so inclined).
