Mitsubishi's 149-inch OLED TV @ ISE 2010
Mitsubishi has tightened its cool modular OLED technology, and will show a new prototype at ISE 2010 next week.
Next week at the Integrated Systems Europe (ISE) 2010 event in Amsterdam, Mitsubishi Electric plans to showcase a prototype OLED screen measuring 149-inches (6.2m²). The technology actually made its debut back in October 2009 during the CEATEC show in Japan--Samsung claimed that its scalable OLED screen technology was the first of its kind.
As we reported in October, the overall screen consists of a grid containing smaller, edge-less OLED modules. This “modular” approach enables Mitsubishi the ability to create seamless screens consisting of any size or shape—the display could even feature curves. In essence, these little OLED modules create "pixels," and could require hundreds to comprise an entire screen. However, the visuals are bright and crisp even when viewed up close, and the grid is undetectable.
According to TechWatch, the display that will be shown at ISE 2010 will actually measure 1920mm x 3264mm in size. The display will also sport a resolution of 1088 x 640 at 3mm pixel pitch, and feature a light output of 1500cd/m². Unlike the 155-inch version shown at CEATEC (which consisted of 10mm x 10mm squares), this prototype will be more suited for indoor applications in “relatively brightly-lit” areas.

While it's nice to see that "they" are working on making bigger oled displays, I think that I would have preferred to see a prototype 20-30 inches display with an HD resolution.
1088x640 is already relatively low by today standard and on a 149 inch display it would look like Commodore 64's graphic from a short distance (with all due respect to the mighty Commodore 64)
155" version? That's just way too big. I prefer the tiny one that's 6" smaller...
You'd be expecting Quad HD with 150". But no. Halve the resolution. Just brilliant.
Its good to see OLED getting developed more, but it wont really be too appealing until the dot pitch (pixel size) is less than 0.5mm
It's new tech people... These OLEDs are new tech and shouldn't be considered any indicator of commercial (mainstream) models. The scaling stuff is kind of cool though, say high to bevel-less screens!

I think the 1088x640 is referring to "the overall screen consists of a grid containing smaller, edge-less OLED modules." Making up the 149" screen.
That's 3.26 meter by 1.9 meter, which is about the size quoted. So it seems that 1088.640 is the resolution of the entire device, not of one panel.
